The Rhaetische Bahn Albula Line
"Bahnhistorischer Lehrpfad"
Preda - Berguen/Bravuogn
The Bahnhistorischer Lehrpfad is a marked footpath which roughly follows
the route of the RhB Albula
Line between Berguen (also known as Bravuogn) and Preda. It is 8kms in length and the signs indicate a walking
time of 2 hours although personal experience has shown that this is a little optimistic. Because of the many photographic
vantage points the walking time is of little importance and will be dictated by the number of trains that you wish
to capture on film and indeed the rail timetable which is generally one train an hour in each direction with the
odd freight thrown in. Because of the spiral route taken by the railway in order to gain height its length is actually
4.6kms longer than the footpath and these spirals often result in the same train being seen more than once from
the same location. Given good weather, the walk is an ideal way to spend a day in the fresh mountain air doing
what comes naturally to rail enthusiasts. The map below is copied from the publicity leaflet issued by the Rhaetische Bahn
which can also be ordered on-line from the Berguen Tourist
Office. I have marked a few of the possible photographic
locations on or near to the walk and I hope that they will give you a flavour for what this area has to offer.
Clicking on the marked locations on the map
will bring up a selection of photos taken at these points
