Microsoft Word: Changing Margins
Margins are the border space between the edge of the paper and the start of the text.  Margins play an important role in how text appears on your page.  There are two ways to change margin settings:

Method 1: Use the Page Setup Menu

1. Go to the File menu > Page Setup.   (On a Macintosh go to the Format menu > Document.)

2. Make changes to the Top, Bottom, Left, and Right margins.

3. A gutter margin is a good idea if you plan on binding a finished document.

Method 2: Use the left margin adjustment on the document ruler.

1. Float your cursor over the margin and indent marker for the left margin.  Move your cursor around until you find the horizontal two-headed arrow that displays "left margin" in a screen tip. (See the animated gif to the right.)

2. Click and drag your mouse to move the margins out or in.
