Installation of the Windows NT4 RAS-Server

The following procedures are very similar to
Windows NT Installation of Dial-Up Networking and Remote Access Server (RAS) for Dialing-In, but I repeat them here with the specific view on VPN.

I am starting with a Windows NT server configured with a network using NetBEUI protocol:

The NetBEUI protocol has a binding to
the Server module and Workstation
module.

Although starting up up "Dialup-Networking" in "Your Computer" will
start the installation:

I prefer to make the installation from the Network-Applet in the Control-Panel:

Since I need to connect to the Internet,
I need to install as protocol in addition
TCP/IP, and since I get my IP-address
assigned dynamically from my ISP
when connecting, I configure TCP/IP
for DHCP.

Under Services, I add now the
"Remote Access Service (RAS)"
On installing RAS, it starts up
the RAS Setup and proposes to
add as RAS Device the modem
(the modem has to be installed in
a previous step)

Now, we need to configure the RAS device: Modem:

I will use the modem only to dial out: to connect to the Internet

We need to configure the Network parameters:

allowing to connect via the modem ONLY using TCP/IP
(the Internet itself will anyway not connect with any other protocol)

Since this system is now configured with TWO protocols
(NetBEUI and TCP/IP),
we need to adjust the
Bindings of the network components:

To prevent any unauthorized access from the Internet to the local disk and
to the local network:

- Local network using NetBEUI bound to the Server and Workstation module
- The Internet-connection (Remote Access WAN Wrapper) has ONLY a
binding with TCP/IP to the
Remote Access Server Service

(please note for later reference the adapter number "5")
