Notes: Hyde Hall at Rettenden near Chelmsford is a Royal Horticultural Society garden. We visited at the beginning of June 2004 just as the roses were coming to their best. It is particularly noted for Foxtail Lillies which grow among the roses. Some of them are up to 10ft tall. East Ruston Old Vicarage Garden is privately run. We visited at the end of July 2004, at that time the Hydrangeas were at their best. It really is many gardens in one. We would rate it as one of the best gardens we have visited.
