Currently the main rehearsal and concert venue for the Tynedale Orchestra is the Lower School Hall of Queen Elizabeth High School; although sometimes rooms in the Hydro building are used. Directions to these are as follows: Lower School Hall:Traveling from Newcastle along the A69 take the turning to Hexham at the large roundabout just N of Hexham. Turn left at the mini roundabout just in front of Waitrose, pass the station on your left and bear right until you come to another mini roundabout. Turn right into the main street through Hexham (called Priestpopple). Pass the bus station on your left and continue ahead until you reach the turn off on the left to Allendale (B6305). There are traffic lights here and the turn off is opposite the Fox public house. After about 1/4 mile along the Allendale road you come to a pedestrian crossing, turn immediately right into Whetstone Bridge Road. Take the next left into the Queen Elizabeth High School and park in front or at the back. The lower school hall is through the main entrance and to the right. The postcode for the school is: NE46 3JB. Hydro Building About 150 yds beyond the turn off into Whetstone Bridge Road (continuing towards Allendale) there is a narrow uphill drive on the right. Take this and bear round to the right, (beware of the speed bump!) you will see a large stone built building ahead. This is the Hydro Building. The main entrance is on the downhill side facing Hexham. The rooms usually used for rehearsal are just to the right of the main entrance. |
