November Walk - Westhumble.
The MV Probus luck stayed with us again, and, in spite of torrential downpours and gales during the previous night we again had a dry walk at a comfortable 10 degrees - though it was a bit damp underfoot in places. I discovered how wet when a root popped up where I wasn't looking and reduced me to a horizontal position coated with mud.
Ron took us from Westhumble village up towards Norbury Park, skirting thick woods, and rising (fairly!) gently to the high point of the Park where there were outstanding views, first across the valley to Cherkley Court, where some of us had enjoyed a guided tour last month, and then North as far as the Wembley Arch and the high points of the London Suburbs.
Some narrow tracks took us through coppiced woods to the Sawmill at the centre of the Park, then on through a lightly wooded area. The storm on the previous night had finally stripped the trees, but there were still some berries and autumn seeds on the lower bushes.
A diversion up a rather soggy path (how does a path that is almost all UP manage to finish at the same height as we started?) took us back to Crabtree Lane and down to the Stepping Stones Inn for an excellent pint and lunch.

Each month, (regardless of the weather) we try to organise a walk of around 3 miles, to encourage exercise for the over-sixties, and provide an opportunity for extended chat - for which purpose we keep the pace gentle! We start at 10:00 unless otherwise stated.
