Introduction
My son Chris was casting about for a project for his A Level Design Technology exam. I suggested he built a road going car that he could use for competition. We talked it through and in the finish, after the initial shock he became really hooked on the idea. Despite strong opposition from his tutors, he stuck to his guns and the decision was made to build a car. I set him up with a welder, donor Cortina and steel tube.

By the time assessment was due, he had built a space-frame, fitted an engine and gearbox and everything worked. The staff at his school were amazed and many of his tutors came along to give it death at our local disused airfield. We totalled a set of tyres in a couple of hours! The project was assessed and he deservedly received an A Grade for his work.

| A friend of ours panelled the car and it was subsequently fitted with a naturally aspirated 2 litre Cosworth YB engine. Some of you may remember the car at a very wet and wonderful Folembray about 6 years ago. Chris and I competed in it in Sprints mainly at Curborough. The car was quick but heavy and we could not hold off the large engine Caterhams (or even the smaller engined ones either come to that!). |
| This prompted Chris to order a Phoenix kit from Jeremy Phillips into which he was going to fit the Cossie. A house purchase and subsequent marriage killed all hopes of ever completing the kit and in a weak moment, I offered to buy the kit from him. This was to help him out financially and a vain hope that once on his feet he might buy it back. Some hopes! In February this year, I decided to put it together and try to get it done in time to drive down to watch the Classic Le Mans in July. |
