JOYCE
LEITCH
I was born and edu cated in Cumbria. I was
bought up on a local mixed arable, beef, sheep &
dairy farm.
After school I spent 2 years at Atholl
Crescent Domestic Science College in Edinburgh. On
leaving college in 1969 I worked for 3 months at the then
newly opened Craggs until starting my full time job
outside Keswick in the September.
I have always worked in catering, firstly
as Assistant Housekeeper at an Outdoor Education Centre.
I later worked as Manageress of the
factory canteen for the Courtauld Co. at Workington
(where I met Dave).
When the factory closed I worked for
Cumbrian Co-op as Manageress of the in-store restaurant
at Workington.
In 1982 I was given the chance to take
over the lease of The Craggs and so came full circle. I
have been here ever since and am still loving it.
In my spare time I like to swim
occasionally and love messing about on the computer,
which I was introduced to at the young age of 50!
We both enjoy visiting the Lake District,
which we are blessed to have close by.

DAVID
ARMSTRONG
Dave was born in Cumbria and
was educated and lived in various parts of the U.K and
Aden as his father was in the RAF.
After school he worked on land settlement
for a while and then in industry.
He came back to Cumbria to live in 1972,
working for many years for Courtauld Co. at Workington
and then worked as cook at the Open Cast mining site at
Oughterside where he developed his natural love of and
flair for cooking.
He came to Craggs with Joyce and he too
has been here ever since and most days still loves it!
In his spare time Dave loves gardening and
in particular, enjoys looking after his large collection
of Bonsai trees. He buys some of the plants but is always
to be found with a small knife in his pocket should the
opportunity arise to aquire another cutting for his
collection!
