THE PHOTO PAGE
A family history site would not be complete without some photos of the family members. Of course many have disappeared into distant relatives' attics or been lost forever but thankfully some survive.
On the Wenn/Rowing/Pooley side of the family quite a few are displayed on the websites created by Christine Wenn, Mel Rowing and Danny Roberts (links to their sites are on the Links Page). I have reproduced a few here which directly relate to my family.
I have now got some Bond and Bayliss families to add to this page and hopefully I should be able to get some more soon.
PACKHAM & WENN PHOTO ALBUM

William
'Bill' Charles Packham was first married to Hilda Legg (nee Hill), daughter of
Mary Ann Rowing, who died in 1924. He then married Sarah Ann Phyall Wenn,
Hilda's cousin, in Nov 1925.
These pictures of Bill and Sarah were taken in 1925 prior to their marriage.

Bill and Sarah's wedding day 19th November 1925 at Chatham, Kent | |

Bill, in the British Army with the Royal Tank Corps, was posted to India and accompanied by Sarah first went to Peshawar (near the Khyber Pass and now in Pakistan). A couple of pictures survive of that time. On the left are Sarah and Bill in April 1927. A couple of months later (June 1927) Sarah is seen here (right) in Peshawar with a dog and her bearer.

In the photo on the left is Bill
the corporal. The date on the back looks like 1918.
Right - A later photo below from India with Bill
(sitting) and others posing by their vehicles.
A
couple of pictures of Bill in his Army uniform.
Sometime
after returning from India the regimental photo of the Royal Tank Corps was
taken when he was based at Lydd (right). Bill is on the front row, extreme left.

Left - Sarah Ann Wenn (date unknown) Right - Bill with son Alan and daughter Daphne on the beach at either Greatstone or Littlestone when he was stationed at Romney in Kent. This was taken about 1932.

This photo apparently has members of the family in it, but who are they? If anyone can identify them please let me know. |
BAYLISS PHOTO ALBUM
![]()
At last some photos for this part of the album.
Elsie Bayliss (right) with her husband William 'Bill' Smith and Nan who I believe is Emma Jessie Hems.
![]() |
John Robert Bayliss (1894-1918), John Bayliss and Emma Jessie Hems' first child, was the only relative to be killed in either World War. He died while returning to England on leave and is buried at Bailleul, France close to the Belgium border. At last a photo of him has been found. |
Tom was their second son and married Frances
Jessie Bayliss, the first daughter, my grandmother, married William Bond and had five children.

Left: William Bond in uniform, I guess during WW1. Right: Jessie Bayliss - she enjoyed playing tennis. | ![]() |

Left, William Bond and Jessie Bayliss with Hazel, Robin and (I guess) Gillian, the youngest daughter who died aged 5. If it is Gillian then this picture was taken in 1937/38 shortly after the family had moved to Leamington Avenue, Merton Park. Above is an earlier photo of William with his children (l to r) Patricia, Jack, Robin and Hazel.

| Left, Jessie with friend and daughter Pat. Right, Jessie. |
John and Emma's next daughter was Grace (aka Amazing Grace to
some).
Her first
husband was Jack Hall.
Next was George who emigrated to New York and married 'Mimi'.
Winnie was their 9th and last child.
