Day of Solidarity with Refugees, 29th November 2003 Over 60 people gathered at the St Vincent Centre to hear refugees tell their own stories (why they fled, what happened to them on arrival in the UK) at this event organised jointly by Catholic Association for Racial Justice, Catholic Bishops’ Conference Office for Refugee Policy, Jesuit Refugee Service and National Catholic Refugee Forum. The event had been organised to mark World Migration Day on 3rd December, the theme of which this year was a commitment against racism, nationalism and xenophobia. The day included talks, workshops and spiritual reflection. Below is the text of the keynote speaker, Naboth Muchopa, the spokesperson on racism for the Methodist Church. |
