Judge’s comments:-

‘The moment I started to read I knew it was the winner. The story is compelling, fast paced, and well written. But there is something more than just the skill of the writing or a gripping story-line. It has that certain something – the X-factor – the secret ingredient, so hard to define and even harder to recreate!
Perhaps it's the deceptive effortlessness with which this writer spins her spell. Perhaps it's the way she cleverly builds up the tension as her heroine realizes that the attack in an underpass wasn't just a random mugging, but the start of a sinister and bewildering campaign of hate against her. Perhaps, it's the determined and feisty way the heroine fights to unmask her tormentor. Whatever it is, I like it… I couldn't put it down.’

Judge’s comments:-
‘This is the rarest of all creatures - a thriller that actually thrills. From the opening page this suspense story grabs the reader and won't let go. It's a genuinely creepy, tingling read packed with menace and malice - the sort of novel that is uncomfortable to read but impossible to put down.'

Mission for a Magician

An adult fantasy

Evil there is in plenty for Zorastro to overcome on the long journey escorting Lady Felicity, to Eryth to her wedding with Prince Godolphin.  The crusty, unlikely hero needs all his magic skills to thwart the infamous sorceress Roxana who will stop at nothing to ensure that the prince marries her own daughter.

Mission for a Magician was one of three runners-up in the NAWG  SF, Fantasy and Horror Novel Award.
Judge’s comments:-
This is a richly woven tale of High Fantasy containing strongly imagined characters, drama, adventure and some vividly pictured settings. The humour, as in the dragon's barely-tolerant attitude towards the magician Zorastro in the opening scene, is delicately done and never descends into cheap pastiche or struggles to force a laugh. The pitch of such humour contrasts well with the episodes of drama and tension promised in the synopsis.
