CHRISTCHURCH AND NEW FOREST CANINE SOCIETY
9TH/10TH June 2007
Judge: Miss Marina White
DAY ONE
6-11 years (6,4a)
1. Page Allen, 10 years old. Page impressed me yet again today, this time handling a parson russell terrier instead of her usual australian shepherd. Sometimes handling a smaller dog is tougher than a large one. She carried out a very neat and tidy round and continuously kept talking to the dog to keep him at ease. Nice tablework too.
2. Nathan Hartfield, 6 years old. Nathan is a beginner handler in every way but had the courage to come into the ring with his border collie nevertheless. I couldn’t fault him for his attitude, he didn’t stop smiling from start to finish! I look forward to judging him again in a couple of years time after having more experience.
12-16 years (4)
What a fabulous class, the standard of this class could’ve made a national handling final.
1. Jodi Allen, 14 years old with her usual australian shepherd. Jodi really pulled out the stops today, really enjoyed watching her handle her dog and she looked like she was enjoying the competition too. Her stacking is first-class, swift but gentle and her shadowing was quietly done. A tough class to win but well deserved.
2. Georgina Ferguson, 15 years old handling a parson russell terrier. Another excellent neat and tidy handler who performed a nice round but her dog turned the wrong way on a number of occasions on the required ‘turns’.
3. Stephanie Jefford, 16 years old with a wire fox terrier
17 years and over (8,1a)
1. Carole Bull with a shar pei. Have admired Carole’s sympathetic handling for a while now and despite having a sluggish dog, she really tried hard to make the best of the situation. The show pose was excellent and she performed one of the best triangles in the class. Well done.
2. Jane Ferguson with a parson russell terrier. Nice stylish handling from Jane with no exaggeration and excellent present of the teeth but her triangle was pretty poor, small with curved corners and the terrier turned the wrong way on some of the turns.
3. Trish Hartfield with a BSD (Groenendael).
DAY TWO
6-11 years (3,1a)
1. Kaitlyn Boal (7 years old) with a papillon. Kaitlyn was smartly dressed and showed good rapport with her dog. Her tablework was a bit scruffy but her pattern work was neat with a good present at the end.
2. Katy-Anne Coleman, 6 years old, with a whippet. I understand this was Katy-Anne’s first time handling yet she didn’t show it! She offered plenty of encouragement to her dog but her triangle was performed more like a square and didn’t really know how to set the dog up properly. However there is a lot of promise in this young handler.
12-16 years (5,1a)
1. Georgina Ferguson (15 years old) handling a whippet. Georgina completed a nice neat and tidy round today with her rather sluggish whippet. Very good tablework including teeth presentation. Hard to fault.
2. Rebecca Rowe, aged 13, with a standard wire-haired dachshund. Thought Rebecca was my winner of this class but at the last shadowing exercise, she was a bit slow to move and her dog wasn’t set up in line with the front dog in the line-up. Nevertheless a great round, excellent presented, both dog and handler.
3. Helen Long with a cavalier king charles spaniel
17 years and over (6,1a)
1. Jane Ferguson handling a PBGV. Jane really shone today. She had a lovely rapport with her dog and her show pose was first class. Excellent pattern work and sported a lovely pale pink jacket and skirt.
2. Margaret McWilliams with a cocker spaniel. Margaret worked really hard and focussed which showed in her handling. Lacked the sparkle of 1 but all the same points apply. Remember to show each side of the teeth and the front bite separately rather in one go.
3. Chris Barrett with a whippet.
