YKC Handling Classes

Judge – Helena Hutchings

Firstly I would like to thank both the Crufts Committee and the YKC Management team for asking me to judge such a prestigious event. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

All competitors worked very hard to get to the finals and they all did themselves proud. Everyone was dressed smartly to compliment their dog, which was excellent to see and they all gave their dogs lots of encouragement so they enjoyed it as much as no doubt the juniors did.

The biggest areas for improvement for a lot of the handlers are:

Not to get your head in the way when showing the judge the teeth, and do not drop your lead when showing the dogs teeth. Show the teeth clearly to the judging so they can see all three sides of the teeth and ALL of the teeth.

Sharpen up patterns so that the judge can see a good front, side and rear gait of the dog, and when completing the straight up and back head for a point in front of you so your lines are really straight

Everyone did really well you should all be very proud of yourselves, continue to enjoy handling your dogs and I wish you all lots of luck for the future. All of the places could easily have been swapped on another day.
