DANIELLE SKINNER, 14 YEARS OLD
DISTRICT/COUNTY WHERE YOU LIVE:
Boston, Lincolnshire.
HOW DID YOU START OFF HANDLING?
I started off handling when my new next door neighbours moved in and they currently show dogs and are very successful, and I became interested in showing and handling so her grand daughter Sophie Ellis taught me the basics of handling and from then on I got the bug of handling.
DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY OTHER DOGGIE ACTIVITIES?
Not really but I have had a go at obedience at home with my dog before.
HOW MANY DOG DO YOU LIVE WITH,OWN AND/OR SHOW?
At the moment I own one male Japanese Shiba Inu called Mika, but I also show 2 bitch japanese shiba`s called spooky and baby that I do not own but hopefully soon I might be getting a miniature schnauzer for handling and showing which I am really looking forward to.
WHICH ONE DO YOU USE FOR JUNIOR HANDLING AND WHY?
I use spooky and baby mostly for junior handling because they are both so lovely natured dogs.
WHAT BREEDS HAVE YOU SHOWN BEFORE IN A COMPETITION?
I have shown the following: Japanese shiba inu, english cocker spaniel and labrador.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR BREED AND HOW TO HANDLE ( SHOWING STYLE) YOUR BREED IN JUNIOR HANDLING CLASSES?
Well when moving your dog you mostly walk with most shibas but if your shiba is longer in the leg you need to go into a jog so your dog gaits at its best. When standing your dog it is a table dog and when on the floor in a line up you may stack the dog or free stand the dog it is totally up to you.
WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY WEAR IN A COMPETITION?
I normally wear my gold and green trouser suit.
WHAT ARE YOUR BEST ACHIEVEMENTS?
1st in 12-16yrs JHA handling, 1st in YKC 12-16 handling, and best overall handler at Leeds Ch show 2008 under Sophie Langdon.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE OCCASION SO FAR?
My most memorable occasion so far has been was when I got my first Richmond diploma when I got 3rd at an open show. I was so pleased that day.
IF YOU HAD ONLY ONE `TOP TIP` TO SHARE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
My top tip would be when you are shadowing around your dog act as if you are the judges shadow .
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT JUNIOR HANDLING?
My favourite thing is working with your dog and exploring the world by going to different places to show/ junior handle.
WHAT DISAPPOINTS YOU IN THE WORLD OF JUNIOR HANDLING?
The big one when you go to shows and you have got a breed judge judging handling and they are judging the dog not you!!
