EMMA MCLAUGHLIN, 17 YEARS OLD
DISTRICT/COUNTY WHERE YOU LIVE: Nottingham
HOW DID YOU START OFF JUNIOR HANDLING?
I was at a local open show and I saw all other kids in a ring together and asked why it was just kids in there and the steward explained what junior handling was and asked my mum if I could give it a go, so she entered me at the next show and from then on I was hooked!
DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY OTHER DOGGY ACTIVITIES (OBEDIENCE,AGILITY,FLYBALL,ETC)?
Yes, I also have a working sheepdog which I used to regularly compete in agility, obedience and flyball. Especially flyball at BFA, Farley and I was on the local BFA 1st team (Border Patrol)! We have competed at crufts with the YKC and have won and come second in the past along with obedience!
HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU LIVE WITH,OWN AND/OR SHOW?
I live with 5 papillons and 2 border collies (for now!). I show only one of the papillons as I show for friends.
WHICH ONES DO YOU USE FOR JUNIOR HANDLING AND WHY?
I use a friends papillon for handling which I also show in breed.
WHAT BREEDS HAVE YOU SHOWN BEFORE IN COMPETITION? P
Papillons and Border Collies and many others.
TELL US ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE (SHOWING STYLE) YOUR BREED IN JUNIOR HANDLING CLASSES? T
The papillon is a free-stood breed so it should not be stacked at any pint through out showing inless on the table.
WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY WEAR IN COMPETITION?
I always always wear a suit!
WHAT ARE YOUR BEST ACHIEVEMENTS?
Making my first champion at 13 (CH Pinelan Amaryliss) and being the first person to make a champion for the breeder, Winning the JHA semi-finals 3 times and never being unplaced in either the semis or the finals and being placed 2nd overall at the JHA finals. Handling a friends papillon to his champion title and him winning second top papillon this year! (CH Bodebi Ray Of Success) as this meant sooo much to me as he was breed by a very close friends of ours who later that year past away. And recently Winning the JHA junior handling finals and representing the UK in the internationals and being placed 2nd in the Internationals!! WHAT A FEELING!!!!
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE OCCASION SO FAR?
Being placed 2nd at the international junior handler of the year 2007!
IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE 'TOP TIP' TO SHARE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Never cross between the dog and the judge and SMILE!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT JUNIOR HANDLING?
Knowing that you are being judged on you and not the dog. Also meeting the close friends I have.
WHAT DISAPPOINTS YOU IN THE WORLD OF JUNIOR HANDLING?
GOSSIP and Banter!
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO BRING UP?
I want to wish all the youngsters GOOD LUCK and ENJOY!!!
