EVESHAM AND DISTRICT CS OPEN SHOW
Judge - Gail Storie
Judging handling classes gives me great pleasure and I take the awarding of Richmond qualifying places very seriously. As such I feel that all of the 6 qualifiers would be capable of winning their class at Richmond.
6 - 11 years (18)
Several major errors kept recurring in this class. Going the wrong way at the start of the triangle being the norm, as was breaking the Golden Rule.
1. Jayne Perks - handled a substitute dog as her own charge was somewhere on the showground with her father. She took in an Irish Setter, not only a dog that she had never handled before but also a breed she had never handled before and a breed that was in a different group to her own. Most accomplished, stacked the dog correctly and moved with pace and fluidity never getting ahead of her dog. A most impressive handler.
2. Rebecca Stracey handling a Miniature Pinscher - had a very good rapport with her dog talking to it and encouraging it in the heat. Good set up on the table. Performed a very good T with nice tight corners.
3. Katie Stewart handling a Labrador - extremely unobtrusive handler who impressed me.
12 - 16 years (16)
A quality class. I made them all work hard for their places.
1. Hollie Kavanagh handling a Doberman - stylish without being flashy. Moves her dog at the correct pace whatever pattern is asked for. Tight corners on patterns and performed a very neat, accurate T. Good shadowing skills although initial present was a tad close to the table, this needs to be watched.
2. Hannah Escott handling an Elkhound - presents dog very well. Patterns are well executed with tight corners but made a fundamental error on the T. Has a tendancy to get slightly ahead of the dog on the move. Close decision with 3.
3. Samantha Bull handling a Swedish Valhund - very close decision between 2 and 3 and I'm going to say what every junior handler hates to hear, that I was splitting hairs when making the placing. It boiled down to the fact that Hannah got more out of her Elkhound who was not being as co-operative as the Valhund.
