Georgie Ferguson

GEORGINA FERGUSON, 16 YEARS OLD

DISTRICT/COUNTY WHERE YOU LIVE: South/Surrey

HOW DID YOU START OFF JUNIOR HANDLING?

I began showing when I was about 8. My sister used to junior handle, and I got started. I never had a co-operative handling dog to show and borrowed anything I could find! When I was 10, my parents bought me a whippet and she was my first handling dog.

DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY OTHER DOGGY ACTIVITIES (OBEDIENCE,AGILITY,FLYBALL,ETC)?

I've been trying to teach my PBGV doggie dancing, and another one of my dogs obedience but unfortunatly, they're not the cleverist of dogs and it's taking a long time!

HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU LIVE WITH,OWN AND/OR SHOW?

I live with 4 dogs at the moment, 3 PBGV'S and my whippet. I also part-own a tibetan terrier and 3 Parson Russel Terriers, who all live with other people. I also show friends dogs and anything I'm asked to show!

WHICH ONES DO YOU USE FOR JUNIOR HANDLING AND WHY?

I use Daisy, my PBGV for handling because we work very well together and make a good handling duo!

WHAT BREEDS HAVE YOU SHOWN BEFORE IN COMPETITION?

To list a few - PBGV, Afghan Hound, Pomeranian, GSP, PRT, Whippet, Poodle, Mini Wire haired Dacshund, Bearded Collie, Tibetan Terrier and many more!

TELL US ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE (SHOWING STYLE) YOUR BREED IN JUNIOR HANDLING CLASSES?

PBGV's are stacked, with their backlegs slightly out and their tails held at a 75 degree angle. Also you have to run at a steady/medium speed.

WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY WEAR IN COMPETITION?

Always a suit, never trainers!! In the summer it tends to be a skirt suit and in the winter or when it's cold a trouser suit.

WHAT ARE YOUR BEST ACHIEVEMENTS?

RCC with Daisy (July 2006)

ShCm with Daisy (May 2007)

2nd at Richmond Champ show semi-finals (Sept 2005)

Overall winner of the Shaun McAlpine Award (March 2007)

1st Crufts Handling (March 2007)

Many 1sts at Championship shows in the Handling Classes.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE OCCASION SO FAR?

Winning at Crufts! (March 2007) It was a really big class with many good junior handlers in it. When I was placed 1st I couldn't breath! It was an amazing day I will never forget!

IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE 'TOP TIP' TO SHARE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Enjoy yourself. If you're having fun then your dog will to. Your not always going to win every single time, so you might as well enjoy yourself. There’s always going to be another handling class!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT JUNIOR HANDLING?

I love meeting new people! When your in the junior handling class with your friends, it's so nice to be able to be competitive in a friendly way and have some one to be with.

WHAT DISAPPOINTS YOU IN THE WORLD OF JUNIOR HANDLING?

Judges who don't know what their doing! Handlers try really hard and its so disapointing when the judge is unsure what to do.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO BRING UP?

You can't win every single time, one day your day will come and you will shine, but up till then, practise makes perfect!
