Judge: Miss Leila Tarabad (Khatibi)

6-11years (8,1a)

1. Jayne Perks (Rottweiler) Smartly dressed young lady, extremely polite and professional throughout the class. Made handling such a large dog look easy. Whenever I looked over she had her dog standing perfectly. She showed the teeth well and completed all her patterns correctly. Still needs to neaten up the corners and make sure lines are always straight but definitely a handler to look out for as she gets older. BJH

2. Katie Stewart (Labrador) Another smartly dressed handler who free stood her fidgety dog very well. Completed all I asked correctly and moved her dog at the right speed. Was a very close decision between the first two but Katie just needs to sort out her lead at times and try to relax!

3. Melissa Phillips (CKCS)Lovely performance from this pair. It was obvious this handler had a great rapport with her dog from the moment she entered the ring. Overall a good performance, she moved her small dog at the correct pace and stood her very well at all time. Just needs to polish her table work up and make sure she stands the dog 3 paces away from the judge and so the judge can see the dog in profile.

12 - 16 years (5,1a)

1. Helen Long (CKCS) Smart and unfussy performance from this young lady. What I especially liked was that I always noticed the dog when I glanced over and not the handler - this is the real secret to good handling. Helen handled her dog so well that it was hard to believe it was only 8 months old. She free stood her dog perfectly at all times and completed her patterns well and at the correct pace. Needs to practice showing the teeth whilst keeping the lead neat but apart from that a very good performance. Unfortunately lost out in the challenge when she got confused during her final pattern.

2. Martha Read (Peke) This handler showed one of the more awkward breeds very well. She obviously knows what is required to show this breed effectively and completed all that I asked confidently. Today she just moved her dog slightly too fast at times and then stood him a little too close to me after moving.

3. Craig Houghton (Labrador)Craig handled his exuberant young puppy very well, keeping his attention throughout the class. He free stood his dog extremely well but overall just needs to polish up his performance. Could be a great partnership with a bit more practice.

17 and over (14, 4a)

This was the hardest of all the handling classes to judge. It seems the adults are starting to get very competitive!! The main comment would be - go and watch some of the juniors and don't be afraid to ask them anything you're confused about! The top 5 were all very good handlers.

1. J. Such (ESS) I loved the simplicity of this handlers performance. She showed her dog exactly as the breed should be handled and as a result got a great performance out of her dog. To begin with I admit she didn't strike me as the winner but as the class went on I kept getting drawn back to her perfectly stood dog . She showed the teeth perfectly and completed all the patterns correctly. Her calm and quiet style eventually won her a very good class.

2. Debra Yeates (Whippet) Extremely smart handler who was so close to 1 throughout the class. She had a lovely rapport with her dog and was able to complete all I asked perfectly ( in fact better than some juniors!) Stood her dog correctly at all times and always had her eye on where I was in the ring. Obviously a very good handler with a very similar performance to 1, I just felt in the end that 1 had the harder dog to handle.

3. Rachel Fludder (Aust Shep) An obvious ex junior handler who performed very well throughout the class. Completed everything I asked correctly and very neatly. Well dressed to complement her dog and extremely polite. Today unfortunately her dog was being rather lazy and cutting corners in the patterns! Nevertheless another great performance.
