Junior Handling
It's always nice to judge the handling in a different area and this was no exception. I believe these classes were qualifying heats for the Scottish Kennel Club Junior Handler of the Year so good luck to those who qualified. Overall I found the most quality in the older age group with a few tough decisions to make between some very good handlers. In the younger group the main problem was that all the handlers' copied the one in front which unfortunately meant on the day that none of them actually did as I asked!! Always listen to what the judge asks you to do and never be afraid to do what you think is right, even if no-one else seems to have the same idea as you.

1. Kerry Hollinsworth (8, Tibetan Spaniel) Smartly dressed handler who never once stopped talking to her young dog. Kerry was the only one in this class who remembered the golden rule of not getting between the dog and the judge which was the main reason she won. She moved her dog in neat lines at the correct speed and stood her dog quite well when it decided to cooperate with her!! Now she needs to concentrate on neatening her table work and listening to exactly what patterns the judge wants her to move in. Well done.
2. Stephanie Hosie (8, Dalmatian) A very polite, neat handler who stood her dog very well when required. Was well dressed to compliment her dog but yet again didn't listen to what I asked her to do. Be brave!! Before you set off on the patterns think through the direction you're going in and if in doubt never be scared to ask the judge to explain what they mean. We don't bite!! Nevertheless a good performance and a handler that will definitely improve in time.
3. Meg Denholm (8, Whippet)

1. Emma Craig (12, Golden Ret.) This young lady is a wonderful little handler. She stepped into the ring with a smile on her face, genuinely looking pleased to be there. Her performance was nearly perfect, stacked her dog well, showed teeth neatly and moved her dog at the correct speed in straight lines and with proper corners. Emma was the only one who used my foot placement as a guide to where I wanted her to move up and down which is what clinched her the 1st place in the end. My main criticism is that when standing her dog after moving she was a bit close, remember the dog should be 3 paces away. I wish her every success in the future and I'll watch her progress in the handling ring with interest. Was without doubt BJH.
2. Allison Donaldson (15,Whippet) When I glanced round the ring for the first time I thought this young lady might be my winner. Smartly dressed and with the quietly confident handling style that I like to see. Again another near perfect performance with table work neat, lines straight and good shadowing. The couple of things that let Allison down were corners being cut slightly and when I finished looking at her dog and sent her back to the line she failed to notice that I was still watching her so relaxed and didn't move her dog smartly. Still, an accomplished handler whom I'm sure has done lots of winning.
