Hannah Rose

HANNAH ROSE, 17 YEARS OLD

DISTRICT/COUNTY WHERE YOU LIVE:

Telford, Shropshire

HOW DID YOU START OFF JUNIOR HANDLING?

My Aunt shows dogs, so I started off handling a few of her dogs at local open shows in breed classes. After a while I started entering junior handling classes.

DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY OTHER DOGGY ACTIVITIES (OBEDIENCE,AGILITY,FLYBALL,ETC)?

I took part in agility and flyball for a few years but now I concentrate on showing.

HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU LIVE WITH,OWN AND/OR SHOW?

I own a GSP and two Min Pins. I also show three Rottweilers for a friend.

WHICH ONES DO YOU USE FOR JUNIOR HANDLING AND WHY?

Either my GSP or one of the Rotties, I prefer to handle bigger dogs.

WHAT BREEDS HAVE YOU SHOWN BEFORE IN COMPETITION?

I have shown many different breeds, too many to list! But I prefer to stick to the dogs I handle on a regular basis.

TELL US ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE (SHOWING STYLE) YOUR BREED IN JUNIOR HANDLING CLASSES?

GSPs are stacked and can be gaited on a loose lead or strung up, depends on the dog. Min Pins are free stood and are normally strung up on the move, but again it is personal preference. Most Rottweilers are baited from the front and they should be gaited on a loose lead, not strung.

WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY WEAR IN COMPETITION?

I usually wear a trouser suit, or black trousers with a smart jacket.

WHAT ARE YOUR BEST ACHIEVEMENTS?

Although I hadn’t done as much handling over the last few years I have achieved many awards which I am proud of, including winning my semi at Richmond two years running. Winning the 12-16yrs working and pastoral handling and YKC Gundog Stakes at Crufts 2005. Also winning the CC and BOB with my first homebred Min Pin at Midland Counties 2005.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE OCCASION SO FAR?

Winning the Pedigree Chum Handling Finals.

IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE 'TOP TIP' TO SHARE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Be confident and enjoy yourself.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT JUNIOR HANDLING?

The friends I’ve made.

WHAT DISAPPOINTS YOU IN THE WORLD OF JUNIOR HANDLING?

Gossip!!
