HARRY CHANNON, 13 YEARS OLD
DISTRICT/COUNTY WHERE YOU LIVE:
East Sussex
HOW DID YOU START OFF JUNIOR HANDLING?
I was bored one day, and went along to watch my mum at ringcraft. Mum asked me to help because she had taken two dogs, so I did. I enjoyed myself, and decided to have a go at Junior Handling.
DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY OTHER DOGGY ACTIVITIES (OBEDIENCE,AGILITY,FLYBALL,ETC)?
No....not yet!
HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU LIVE WITH,OWN AND/OR SHOW?
I live with six dogs at the moment. Five Field Spaniels and a Border Terrier (who is due a litter in 10 days).
I sometimes show the two of the Fields' and the Border, but I mostly handle a friends Welsh Springer Spaniel, Lily.
WHICH ONES DO YOU USE FOR JUNIOR HANDLING AND WHY?
I like to handle Lily best, because we have a strong bond, the Fields work and show for my mum, so they are more bonded to her.
WHAT BREEDS HAVE YOU SHOWN BEFORE IN COMPETITION?
A Whippet (at my first show)
TELL US ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE (SHOWING STYLE) YOUR BREED IN JUNIOR HANDLING CLASSES?
Fields and WSS are stacked, and moved on a loose lead.
WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY WEAR IN COMPETITION?
Now I have decided I am really serious about JH, I have a suit with matching waistcoat. I also have smart cord trousers and a smart/casual waistcoat.
WHAT ARE YOUR BEST ACHIEVEMENTS?
Qualifying for the JHA Semi Finals at my first competition, and 'Most Improved Handler' (from juniors and adults)at my club in 2005.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE OCCASION SO FAR?
Meeting Lily and being asked if I would like to handle her, not only in JH, but in breed classes too!
IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE 'TOP TIP' TO SHARE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Enjoy yourself and make sure your dog enjoys it too.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT JUNIOR HANDLING?
Making friends, and handling dogs.
WHAT DISAPPOINTS YOU IN THE WORLD OF JUNIOR HANDLING?
Juniors who get cross with their dogs if they dont win. Bad sports, and rudeness.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO BRING UP?
No thanks.
