IRVINE & DISTRICT CANINE CLUB

Judge  - Lisa Moir

Firstly, may I take this opportunity to thank the Irvine & District Canine Club for inviting me to judge at their open show, their welcome and hospitality was lovely.   Thanks also to the juniors for giving me the opportunity to assess their handling. Points to remember – golden rule, never go between your dog and the judge. Also, when showing your dog’s teeth be gentle and try to keep fingers out of the way, your thumb and finger at either side of the dogs muzzle to lift the lips is a quick, gentle way which also keeps your hand clear of your dog’s nose.

6-11 years (10, 5a)

1. Emma Craig (11) – Emma handled her Golden Retriever very well, not putting a foot wrong. With a very sympathetic style Emma talked to her charge throughout and executed patterns neatly and accurately. Nothing was flashy or exaggerated, just natural - the way handling should be! Emphasis being placed on making sure the dog looks its best. Emma was smartly dressed in a dark suit which complemented her dog and completed the overall picture. A lovely job, well done.

2. Miss J. McKinstry (11) – I was splitting hairs between 1 and 2! A very good neat, natural performance, at one with her Whippet. Talked to her dog throughout and handled her with care and compassion. I’m sure you and Emma will swap places many a time, I just felt that today Emma’s change of hands on the straight up and down was slightly smoother. A good job, well done.

3. Katie-Ann McTaggart (9)

4. Katie Vallance

VHC. Aaron Houston (9)

12- 16 years (7, 2 a)

1. Gemma Baillie (15) – Gemma put in a flawless performance, handling a young pointer. Pattern work was very neat and she was at one with her charge talking to her throughout. She was very gentle and showed the dogs teeth without any fuss. I really liked Gemma’s relaxed, confident style, she looked like she was enjoying herself, smiling throughout. Nothing was flashy or over exaggerated but the pair oozed presence. A very good performance Gemma, well done.

2. Jill Denholm (13) – Handling a Whippet, Jill put in a faultless performance. Her pattern work was neat and accurate, showing consideration for her charge throughout with gentle encouragement. I really was splitting hairs between 1 and 2, I just felt that today Gemma appeared more confident and this gave her the edge.  A really good job Jill, I’m sure you two will swap places many times!

3. Gail Paterson (14)

4. Jennifer Calderwood (14)

VHC. Fraser Gilfillan (14)
