The Junior Handling Training weekend was held in a community hall in Addlestone in Surrey over two days in August. The original plan was just to hold a one day event on the Sunday but we had so many entries we were forced to spread them over two days. The weather was kind to us, if a little too kind, as it was very hot and humid but it meant we were able to train the juniors outside in two separate car parks, the majority of which was in shade. The heat did affect some of the dogs, so some handlers were able to use some ‘spare’ dogs to practice with, which was good practice for not only the handlers but the dogs too! Helena and I were really pleased with how the event was received and we received lots of nice feedback.
We held a small competition in the afternoon to see if handlers could demonstrate what they had learnt during the day. The results were as follows:

We certainly could not have held such an interesting day if it wasn’t for the help of Jenny and Eric Hutchings, providing food and drink in the kitchen and the fantastic array of raffle prizes, thanks to June Caffel. A big thank you must also go out to Our Dogs for providing some lovely goody bags too.
