MARCIA HUTCHIN, 12 YEARS OLD
DISTRICT/COUNTY WHERE YOU LIVE:
Heath and Reach ,Bedfordshire
HOW DID YOU START OFF JUNIOR HANDLING?
I got a cavalier king charles spaniel one year ago and loved showing at companion dog shows. At my first match night I got fourth in junior handling I was so happy I decided to get more serious about junior handling and I got a first at my first companion dog show I was thrilled!
DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY OTHER DOGGY ACTIVITIES (OBEDIENCE,AGILITY,FLYBALL,ETC)?
I am hoping to start to do agility so I can do it at YKC camp.
HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU LIVE WITH,OWN AND/OR SHOW?
I live with five dogs they are
Diesel a german shephard
Jack a border collie
Bisto a border terrier
Fred a cavalier king charles spaniel
Digby a cavalier king charles spaniel
WHICH ONES DO YOU USE FOR JUNIOR HANDLING AND WHY?
I use to use Fred my twenty month old cavalier but he got scared of the table so now I use Digby a cavalier who is nine months old because he is an energetic puppy that loves to show.
WHAT BREEDS HAVE YOU SHOWN BEFORE IN COMPETITION?
I have shown my cavaliers and my border terrier at a companion dog show.
TELL US ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE (SHOWING STYLE) YOUR BREED IN JUNIOR HANDLING CLASSES?
In a junior handling class with a cavalier you need to get your dog to free stand but try to make the judge know that you are aware of the fact that your dog is not standing square by saying stuff like "feet" to your dog and teach your dog that when you say feet he puts his feet right . When walking use a loose lead to show of your dogs movement.
WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY WEAR IN COMPETITION?
In competition I wear a black suit and at a companion I go casual but neat and I always wear flat shoes.
WHAT ARE YOUR BEST ACHIEVEMENTS?
My best achivements are BOB at an open show and my junior handling is at my first open I got a first and qualified for Richmond and also at a companion I got first out of 24 handlers.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE OCCASION SO FAR?
Getting BOB was amazing I felt on top of the world! It was great!
IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE 'TOP TIP' TO SHARE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Have fun and remember the GOLDEN RULE never come between the judge and the dog.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT JUNIOR HANDLING?
My favourite thing about junior handling is that it is a class for young people no adults allowed, it’s almost a mini dog show in those classes because all the handlers are under 24! It’s great!
WHAT DISAPPOINTS YOU IN THE WORLD OF JUNIOR HANDLING?
I get disapointed when a judge places on the dog and not on the handling and then at the end of the class he or she says well that was good I have never done it before!
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO BRING UP?
Have fun when you are handling remember it’s not about your dog it’s about you!
Iwould like to thank Leila Tarabad for letting me have Digby and Rita and Peter Towse for letting me have Fred .
