October 11th 2005

Nicky Logie, mum of 7-year-old Erin, has e-mailed me about some fantastic wins at a couple of recent Champ shows. I’ll just fill you about Erin – she lives in Angus in Scotland, shows the families Large Munsterlanders and competes in agility, flyball, obedience, biathlon and triathlon! She’s a very busy girl! Onto the results and Erin had a great weekend at SKC. She took wins in the 8 – 11 YKC handling class and the biathlon (which qualifies her for Crufts biathlon). Not content with that Erin took a 3rd and a 4th in both starters obedience and elementary obedience. Then the clan (Scottish word for a family group!) went to Belfast and had another great show. Erin was 2nd in the YKC 8 – 11 handling, 1st in the crossbreed handling, 1st in starters obedience and elementary obedience. Also to top it off she got a 2nd in biathlon and 3rd and 4th in triathlon. Miss Logie couldn’t get down to Richmond for the handling semi – finals this year but they say that these wins made up for missing out – I quite agree!

Moving onto a junior who did get to the Richmond semi – finals – Kiri Hurst. 8-year-old Kiri and her American Cocker Spaniel won the Gundog 6 – 11 age class this year. Fresh from this win, Kiri’s now added Best Junior Handler at the American Cocker Spaniel Club of Great Britain to her collection.

7 August 2005 - Julie McCaig, 23, an ex top Scottish Junior Handler has made up her second champion, this time a Bedlington Terrier called Honeymist Jordu. ‘Taz’ took his third CC at Blackpool Ch Show at 10 years of age. Nice one Julie!

Julie tells me that she really wasn’t expecting it. In the morning at the show, she kept thinking about why she had bothered to bring him in the first place! It hasn’t been confimed yet but Taz could be the oldest Bedlington Terrier ever to get his crown.

‘Taz’ won the KCJO Terrier stakes at Crufts in 1999 and went onto be runner - up overall.

Erin Logie has e-mailed, telling me of some superb junior handling qualifiers and she is only seven!

She handles Large Munsterlanders which you don’t often see in the handling classes and lives in Scotland. She has recently qualified for Crufts, the Richmond junior handling semi-finals and the Scottish Junior Handler of the Year.

Here’s a bit of background behind Erin’s world. She began handling at the age of five, and joined the YKC a year later as part of a birthday present - what a good idea! Her family house 6 dogs, four Large Munsterlanders, a Collie, a Jack Russell and a Pomeranian.

She’s a busy girl with all these dogs, she currently partakes in the following: obedience, agility, flyball, triathlon, biathlon, breed showing and of course junior handling.

Thanks for the news Erin and well done to mum Nicky for helping to send the e-mail!
