As it’s coming towards the end of the year, I just wanted to personally say a big thank you to all who have contributed to this website and my junior columns. This website is remarkably only 18 months old but is really looking great. With so much interesting handling content, it’s a fantastic place for junior handlers - young and old!
See you in 2007!

Some of you may have been at Richmond on the second day (Working/Pastoral/Terriers) watching the handling semi-finals being judged. Do you remember seeing the girl handling the pyrenean mountain dog in the beautiful turqoise suit in the pastoral 12 - 16 year class. Well that handler, Danielle Regan, has been in touch to say that she eventually won a 3rd and that for our information, the suit was bought from a website called ‘Bon Prix’. You heard it here first!

Becky Hadfield’s been in touch to boast that she beat her sister Hannah Hadfield at Stafford and District open show in September. Hannah won the older working age group handling class at Richmond, so Becky says that was particularly fun! Becky also won Best Junior Handler at Leicester Gundog handling a welsh springer spaniel under judge Thelma Richie. Well done.

12 year old Charlotte Page from Pymoor (pictured left at Leeds with Tigger) is enjoying a good a run of wins and placings. She won the YKC stakes with her dalmatian, ‘Tigger’ at Leeds Ch show which means she has qualified for the finals at Crufts 2007 and then she managed a 5th in the 12 - 16 Utility Richmond semi finals. Charlotte was espeically pleased with this placing because “my dog called buddy wasn't up for showing that day, he bounced round the ring and he sat there barking all the way round. I was shocked to get pulled out for short listing and then to get placed 5th was even better because there was so many good handlers that had worked so hard. Thank you to the judge that gave me the place.”

And now Georgie Ferguson has sent some news about her trip to Ireland last month.
“Just thought I'd let you know how me and my mum got on when we did the munster circuit for the first time. We came home with 5 green stars, 1 CACIB, 4 reserve green stars and a BOB! so we did really well! I was showing Tigger (he got the CACIB and BOB) most of the time and it was just an awesome experience to be in the group at a champ show, in Ireland! Also in the handling I got a 1st and two 2nds! So we did really well and we thought it was great fun and will hopefully be going back next year!”

15 year old Hannah Escott went on the Irish circuit for the first time and from what she tells me, she took Ireland by storm , she writes:
“ TOP OF THE MORNING TO YOU! Just come back from the munster circuit and is was really great! I didn't take my own dogs but goodness I was kept busy! I handled a few wheatens, cairn terriers, tibetan spaniels, norwegian elkhounds and a siberian husky! In the handling classes I was placed every time (15-17 years), got a 1st with the husky and, with the elkhound - two 3rds and a 1st! The first time I handled a Cairn, I got a green star too - which totally amazed me!
The week was brilliant - the other handlers were really nice and in every class you shook the hand of everyone placed and everyone was happy and the judges were friendly too! Some other English handlers were there too, Jodie and Paige allen, the Rogerson brothers, Katie with a goldie and Georgina Ferguson.
It was the first time I'd handled table dogs, and I learnt tht small dogs are not easier to show than bigger dogs (I'd take Spangle - newfoundland in and have an easier time!) the tibetan spaniels and cairns have got really lively temperaments, which is brilliant fun but didn’t make the job easy. I didn’t want to come home!”

Nicky Logie from Angus in Scotland, mum of 8 year old junior handler Erin, has let me know about some of her daughters recent wins. Erin took part in a recent fun show where she competed in her first Heelwork to Music competition and came 11th with her 5 month old Collie, a 10th and 5th places with two different Large Munsterlanders. Nicky tells me there was a lot of positive comments for Erin from the judges as she was the youngest competitor. They are planning on putting the first ever Heelwork to Music show with junior classes in Scotland next year, so that’s great news!

A couple of juniors who have been in touch are 11 year old Dom Santoriello and Becki Craig. Dom recently competed at City of Birmingham Ch show and had an excellent day winning the YKC stakes and YKC handling class with his miniature pinscher, the judge was Dr Ron James. His mum, Suzanne says he’s going to find it tough when he moves up into the older age group handling class!
Elsewhere Becki and her cocker spaniels had a successful SKC. She won the JHA 12 – 16 years class on gundog day with her black cocker bitch ‘Bridget’ (Nicibec Never A Dull Moment) under gundog specialist Patsy Hollings. But not content with that, Becki and Bridget then went onto win JB and then took a second in NB, and in novice they were only beaten by Bridget’s half sister. Becki says that it was a really lovely win because they haven’t done much showing this year and their bitch is homebred. So massive congrats to you.

More news from the north of the border where 8 year old Erin Logie with her Large Munsterlanders in Angus continue to be successful. Erin’s mum Nicky tells me that they were thrilled with Erin’s spot on BBC Crufts and were very chuffed to be interviewed. Erin went to Selkirk Open and qualified for the Scottish Junior Handler of the Year finals in May 2007 with her Munster, Hogan. Also the day before, she was entered in the Hunt, Point, Retrieve open show and won RBOB handling their 12 month old bitch called Alba. She also won her age group of handling on the day. Erin’s busy life doesn’t stop there, she has just become the proud owner of a Welsh section pony called Beth, so no spare time for mum now!

Congratulations to these young handlers who did well in the breed ring at Crufts 2006.
Charlotte Boyle, 20, took BP and the BCC with her Italian Greyhound Berinshill Eswarah. 15 year old Hannah Escott from Kidderminster won PGD and GCD with her Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Bargehouse Georgie Fame. She then handled the sister, owned by Mr and Mrs Rigby and won PGB. Also in SCWT, 7 year old Michaela Dunhill – Hall won SJB with Fantasa Blonde Isabelle. Michaela was also featured on the BBC programme on Friday night, she came across very well and has hopefully inspired lots more juniors to get involved in dogs. The BBC also showed 7 year old Erin Logie from Scotland with her Large Munsterlander, she nearly managed to upstage presenter Peter Purves in the interview!
More show news came from Crufts with Lisa Moir from Scotland. She was helping out in the YKC ring on most days but managed to take time out and win a big VB class with her German Spitz (Mittel), Ch Wilmac Kreme Kookie at Jansanleis. I saw Becky Hodge, 20, with her Labrador Naiken Quincy JW get called in for the RCC after they got 2nd in GD (to the eventual BOB winner) but unfortunately went no further. Becky Barber continued her good run and won SJB with the Dobermann Freelance Temptation with Alcumlow.
