REBECCA HADFIELD, 16 YEARS OLD
LIVES IN: EARL SHILTON, LEICESTER
WHERE I LIVE: Earl Shilton, Leics
DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY OTHER DOGGY ACTIVITIES?
Yes I take part in grooming.
HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU LIVE WITH/OWN/OR SHOW?
We currently have three dogs at home. Boo and Crystal are dobermanns and Monty is a whippet. We only show Crystal and Monty now due to Boo having an accident. I have also just purchased a Welsh Springer Puppy that is arriving around February 2007. For the past year I have been handling my puppys mother and cousin.
WHICH ONES DO YOU USE FOR HANDLING? WHY?
I handle Monty and Saffie (puppys mother). When Amber arrives (my puppy) I will be handling her as well. Monty knows what is expected in the handling ring now and Saffie is my challenge.
WHAT BREEDS HAVE YOU HANDLED?
Welsh Springer Spaniel, Whippet, Dobermann, Italian Greyhound, Labrador.
TELL US ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE YOUR BREED:
A welsh springer should be stacked. Its tail should be held in line with the body. The lead must be put over the withers as this makes sure the lead does not cut off the head from the body.
WHAT DO YOU USUALLY WEAR IN COMPETITION?
I always wear a suit. Usually my navy skirt suit. I wear this usually as it doesn't blend in with my dogs colouring.
WHAT ARE YOUR BEST ACHIEVEMENTS?
My best achievements are probably qualifying for Crufts in my first grooming class. Winning Best Junior Handler of the year at my local training club. Gettting BJH at Leicester gundog with Jessica (a very challenging dog) and qualifying for the semi finals 07 with all my dogs.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE OCCASION SO FAR?
Probably when my sister Hannah got 4th at the JHA finals on her first time there. I actually burst into tear of happiness when John Thirwell placed her.
WHAT DISAPPOINTS YOU IN THE WORLD OF SHOWING?
The nastiness around the ring that can occur. Face Judging.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO BRING UP?
Losing isn't always a bad thing. I have lost many times and have learnt to pick my self back up and try harder next time. If unsure of anything just ask.
