REBECCA THOMPSON, 10 YEARS OLD
LIVES IN NOTTINGHAM
DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY OTHER FIELD (I.E. OBEDIENCE, AGILITY, FLYBALL ETC)?
Not at the moment.
HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU LIVE WITH, OWN AND SHOW?
I live with 11 Papillons Shari age 12, Holly age 8, Frayer age 6, Digit age 3, Oliver age 3, Jazz age 2, Sacha age 2, Robbie age 14 months, Cassie age 14 months, Whisper age 16 months and last of all, my dog Potter age 2 I had potter for showing but unfortually he did not take to showing.
WHICH ONES DO YOU USE FOR JUNIOR HANDLING AND WHY?
I use Oliver and Digit but mainly Digit because he works well with me because we seem to have a good re pore with one another, I sometimes have to use Oliver, he works well for me but not the same as digit.
WHAT BREEDS HAVE YOU SHOWN BEFORE IN COMPETITION?
I have only shown Papillons.
TELL US ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE (SHOWING STYLE) WHICHEVER BREED YOU USE MOST IN JUNIOR HANDLING CLASSES.
They are a free standing dog, so you have to walk them into their stand, stand in front of them to keep their attention, walking round some may have to be on a slightly tight lead others on a lose lead, the many thing is just let them enjoy what they are doing and they will do what you ask of them.
WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY WEAR IN COMPETITION?
I always wear a suit, I have black, pink, cream, blue, over the few years I have been handling I have had different colours but I usually seem to come back to black.
TELL US ABOUT SOME OF YOUR BEST ACHIEVEMENTS?
Winning Richmond semi finals 2005 would be my first, I also came 2nd last year 2004, winning the Papillon junior handle of the year award, (this is some the Papillon clubs do over the year).
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE OCCASION SO FAR?
Winning the Papillon Club junior of the year, because I was only 6 when I did this and of course winning Richmond semi 2005.
IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE 'TOP TIP' TO SHARE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Stay calm.( things seem to stay together)
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT JUNIOR HANDLING?
I get to handle my best boy Digit, I enjoy learning new things and see my friends.
WHAT DISAPPOINTS YOU IN THE WORLD OF JUNIOR HANDLING?
I get very disappointed when I arrive at a show to be told who will take the junior class because the judge know them or sometime when a judge does not know why we are moving round our dogs and they say to you at the end you need to stand still with your dog. .
