SALISBURY & SOUTH WILTS CS
Judge - Marina White
JUNIOR HANDLING
6 – 11 YEARS (4,2a)
1. Steffie Le Noury, 10 years old, handling a long - haired dachshund. Steffie stood out for me in this class. She and her dog didn’t put a foot (or paw) wrong! She listened to my instructions, was aware of my position in the ring at all times and her presentation of the teeth was first class. In the challenge, I just felt her figure of 8 was quite untidy, but with a bit of practice on this pattern in particular she could definitely challenge the older handlers.
2. Joel Hernon, 10, with a very naughty tibetan terrier. Joel showed a lot of promise despite handling a difficult dog. He was kind and gentle with his dog and kept going even though he was being really messed about. I would suggest learning your basic handling skills with an experienced dog otherwise, when both of you are learning, that’s not an effective or easy combination to get through.
12 – 16 YEARS (7,1a)
This was a top quality class. I know judges have said this before but on another day, all 6 places could’ve been different.
1. and BJH. Georgina Ferguson, aged 14 with a PBGV. I’ve admired Georgie’s handling style from the ringside and today I wasn’t disappointed. She really has the almost perfect handling style - happy demeanor, first class presentation, excellent handling knowledge and a rapport with her charge. Just be careful that your dog is not getting a bit bored with it all. But well done in such hot competition.
2. Rebecca Rowe, 12 years old and handling a wire-haired dachshund. Rebecca demonstrated good handling without fuss, with straight lines, tight corners and excellent presentation. She was very close to 1 but lost out when she didn’t know the anatomy question.
3. Amber – Louise Corcoran, 15 years old with a Dalmatian.
ADULT HANDLING
UNDER 60 YEARS (12, 2a)
1. Jane Ferguson handling a whippet. Jane shone out in this well-contested class, she oozes presence that can’t be ignored. She moved her whippet at a correct pace but still maintained excellent straight lines and neat corners. She looked like she was enjoying the competition and her relaxed style kept the dog at ease. Was a pleasure to judge her and hope she enjoys continued success. BAH.
2. Trish Hartfield with a BSD (Groen). Trish wasn’t far behind Jane by any means. She demonstrated excellent handling skills, keeping one eye on me at all times, and had to work hard with her dog to keep him under control. I just felt she was a touch on - edge and not as relaxed as 1.
3. Chris Barett with a whippet.
OVER 60 YEARS (8, 3a)
1. Judy Manley handling a whippet. I liked Judy’s no fuss and laid back handling style. She was always trying to get the best out of her dog yet was watching my position in the ring at all times. Her table work was excellent, and her patterns were very crisp. She just lost out in the challenge because her figure of 8 was very untidy and used some wrong turns in that pattern too. Nevertheless an excellent round in the class.
2. P.E Curtis with a shetland sheepdog. I was very impressed with this lady’s handling and her maroon suit was very striking (where did you get it?!). She performed the required patterns quietly but confidently and had a superb rapport with her sheltie. In the final line – up, her dog was not placed correctly behind the dog in front, if she had’nt have done that, she would’ve come 1st.
3. M Small with a border terrier.
