SARAH LITTLE, 15 YEARS OLD
DISTRICT/COUNTRY WHERE YOU LIVE:
Lanark, Scotland.
HOW DID YOU START OFF JUNIOR HANDLING?:
I was at my second dog show at 13 years of age when my friend Sylvia offered me to handle her 8 month old Siberian Husky puppy in the 12-16 Junior Handling class, which we came third in.
DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY OTHER DOGGY ACTIVITIES (OBEDIENCE, AGILITY, FLYBALL, ETC)?:
No, just Showing and Handling.
HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU LIVE WITH, OWN AND/OR SHOW?:
I own and show two Cocker Spaniels: Luke (Kelbonny Kool Hand Luke), and Melissa (Carjinbar Robina).
WHICH ONES DO YOU USE FOR JUNIOR HANDLING AND WHY?:
I mainly use Luke because he has had more experience in the ring than Melissa, and he also moves very well with me.
WHICH BREEDS HAVE YOU SHOWN BEFORE IN COMPETITION?:
A Siberian Husky and Tibetan Spaniel.
TELL US ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE (SHOWING STYLE) YOUR BREED IN JUNIOR HANDLING CLASSES?:
Cocker Spaniels are stacked which means I have to get down on one knee and hold their head and tail. They are also table dogs, which need to go on the table to be judged and I have to walk at a medium pace with them in the ring.
WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY WEAR IN COMPETITION?:
I usually wear a light blue suit, depending on the weather.
WHAT ARE YOUR BEST ACHIEVEMENTS?:
Winning RBIS, Best Puppy, Novice Cocker, and Handled By a Lady with Luke, and winning BIS,and the Bitch class with Melissa.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE OCCASION SO FAR?:
Going to Crufts for the first time-it's HUGE!
IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE 'TOP TIP' TO SHARE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?:
Do your best and never give up.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT JUNIOR HANDLING?:
It gives us young people something interesting and enjoyable to do in the dog world, and also meeting new friends.
WHAT DISAPPOINTS YOU IN THE WORLD OF JUNIOR HANDLING?:
People not being good sports.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO BRING UP?:
Always have fun with your dog when showing.
