SOFT COATED WHEATEN TERRIER CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN
16th September 2007
JUDGE: Hannah Escott
My first judging appointment, and it was a pleasure to have a great number of Wheaten handlers to judge. The majority have been handling for less than a year and I was very impressed with quality of handling today. You must have done a lot of practise and put in hours of hard work, well done!!
All handlers were well dressed to compliment their dogs. Areas that generally need improving: showing the teeth- not getting handlers head between dog and the judge, standing dog with all 4 legs in the right place, and allignment on patterns.
6-11
Very close competition
1. Cara Grime- 11 years old. Displayed a lovely enthusiatic approach to handling. She moved her dog well, with good verbal encouragement, lovely straight lines and tight corners. Be careful not to over angulate your dog behind, and don’t fuss.
2.Iain Williamson- 9. Good gentle handler, looking more and more professional. Moved dog well, and gave good verbal encouragement. Pattern work was rather loose- not to his normal high standard, which lost him the class.
3. Dominique Witheyman-6. Great to see her confidence has grown. Moved dog well and had lovely pattern work with straight lines and tight corners. Would like to see her stacking improved and needs to remember to shadow. Certainly competition to the older handlers.
4. Mary O’Sullivan- 7. Displays a super enthusiatic attitude to handling. Her dog wasnt co-operating, but did very well to get the dog behaving on the move. Needs to be careful not to go between the dog and the judge.
12-16
Super competitive class
1. Sarah Gibbons-16. Lovely professional handler. The only one to show the teeth correctly. Her patterns were faultless with lovely straight lines, tight corners and good allignment. Really getting the best out of her dog. BJH
2. Gabriella Oxlade-13. Another very professional handler. Love her stack and presentation- really showing the dog off to his best advantage. Patterns were good with lovely straight lines and good allignment, but don’t push your dog’s head round on the corners.
3. Katie Shillings-14. Stacked her dog well and gently. Pattern work was lovely- getting the best out of her dog, had good straight lines, tight corners and allignment. Has great technical abiltiy, would now like to see her with more confidence.
4. Dixie Gleeson-12. Really liked her quiet, graceful style of handling. Stood the dog well, pattern work was good with straight lines and tight corners, need to watch allignment though.
5. Abigail Lloyd-12. Had great patience to persevere with a very unco-operative 7 month old puppy. Always gave gentle encouragement. With more practise on improving technical ability you could become great partners.
