Stacey Mason

STACEY MASON, 14 YEARS OLD

DISTRICT/COUNTY WHERE YOU LIVE:

Brechin,in Scotland.

HOW DID YOU START OFF JUNIOR HANDLING?

I went to the highland game with my gran in Montrose and i won my class and ever since then i started going to every show my gran went to. I just showed Amy at every show possible.

DO YOU TAKE PART IN ANY OTHER DOGGY ACTIVITIES (OBEDIENCE,AGILITY,FLYBALL,ETC)?

No.

HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU LIVE WITH,OWN AND/OR SHOW?

I own one dog, have 2 pet dogs, that aren't shown and i show many of my grans show dogs.

WHICH ONES DO YOU USE FOR JUNIOR HANDLING AND WHY? I use my Cocker Spaniel Kraig because i have shown him ever since he began and many judges have said we go well together and i feel that i always show to the best of my ability with Kraig because he is so much fun an he also tries hard to impress when in the ring.

WHAT BREEDS HAVE YOU SHOWN BEFORE IN COMPETITION?

Cocker Spaniels, Hungarian Vizslas, King Charles Spaniels, Rough Collies, Brittany Spaniels and Australian Shepherds.

TELL US ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE (SHOWING STYLE) YOUR BREED IN JUNIOR HANDLING CLASSES?

I stack my dog and sometimes i kneel beside him and other times i stand above him to stretch him out a bit more. I also have to put a slight skip in my step when moving my dog as he moves better at a faster pace than walking.

WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY WEAR IN COMPETITION?

I normally wear a pair of trousers and a smart jacket. I never wear colours that may hide my dog, i like to wear clothes which make him stand out.

WHAT ARE YOUR BEST ACHIEVEMENTS?

My best achievements have been winning Top Scottish Junior Handler in 2006+2007 i was so happy and it was unbelieveable winning it the 2nd year. Also being placed fourth top handler in the National Handler Of the Year in 2006 at crufts.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE OCCASION SO FAR?

Winning Top Scottish Junior Handler for the 2nd time i actually did cry because i was that happy and it was an amazing thing to achieve.

IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE 'TOP TIP' TO SHARE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

To smile and look happy, because no judge will want to place you if you look glum and as if you don't want to be in the ring.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT JUNIOR HANDLING?

Being with my dog as he has a lovely temperment and making friends with other handlers as we can all discuss what we did right or wrong with each other.

WHAT DISAPPOINTS YOU IN THE WORLD OF JUNIOR HANDLING?

The way that some people are nasty to the person that wins if they don't think the person deserved it, you should always congratulate the winner even if you didn't think they deserved it.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO BRING UP?

I would just like to say well done to everyone else who has ever had a very good placing.
