VALE OF GLAMORGAN OPEN
15th AUGUST 2007
JUDGE Kathryn Sutton
Thank you for the complement of a very good entry. There were some absentees throughout the show due to the very bad weather conditions.
Despite a muddy show ground juniors and their dogs were in a fairly good order. I wanted to watch everyone enter the ring and set up their dogs so was rather dismayed when one young lady cut across the ring from the other side. This was just about the only thing she did 'wrong' for me as she ended up BJH.
I was hoping to find my winners with just good basic handling, manners, showmanship and ring patterns and pleased to say this was the case.
It was fairly easy to see who were the most experienced but to those not placed I would just say - Inexperience is not a fault. Keep entering and enjoy your showing. Keep learning and your placing's will become higher.
Dress sense was better from my BJH than the older young ladies as was the presentation of your dogs after moving.
8-12 years (14,8a)
1. Libby Jones with a Sealyham Terrier. Apart from the initial 'mistake' I became more and more impressed as the class went on. For her age she was excellent. Her manner to dog and myself, ring patterns and table work very good. Dress and presentation of dog gave her BJH. Well done.
2. Abigail Richards and her Border Terrier. In fairness this young lady did everything asked of her. Good way with her dog, patterns and table work accurate. Only the confidence that comes with time separated 1st and 2nd.
3. Jake Reed and a Pug.
13 - 18 years (5,1a)
1. Shireen Saunders, Boxer and 2nd Rachael George, Giant Schnauzer. These two ladies made my decision rather difficult! Both had confidence in their handling, were pleasant with the dogs and answered my questions well. Ring patterns good as was 'at the table'. Let yourselves down with presentation after moving your dogs. Shireen just had the edge there.
3. Sophia Antonio, Whippet.
Thanks to you all. I really enjoyed the appointment. Good luck to you all and happy showing!
Webmaster - thanks to Kathryn for sending this critique in.
