About Needlepoint
![]() |
Needlepoint is a type of embroidery stitched on evenweave canvas and today includes a vast array of stitches and yarns. Many well known embroidery stitches can also be used for needlepoint. You do not have to buy expensive or complex equipment to enjoy needlepoint. Smaller or simpler pieces can be perfect to work while travelling or on vacation. Needlepoint is often incorrectly referred to as tapestry but genuine tapestry is woven on a loom over a background of vertical threads. Canvaswork, however, is another term that can be used for needlepoint. The earliest examples of needlepoint date from the16th century, often as embroidered slips which were stitched onto curtains and samplers. In later centuries, as houses became more comfortable, needlepoint was used in furnishings such as chair and stool covers, firescreens, etc. |

Needlepoint can be pictorial but Anna Pearson Needlepoint Kits are all counted thread work using original designs. The high-quality yarns included in these kits are varied and include Appletons crewel wools, DMC stranded cotton (floss), pearl cotton, hand-dyed silks, ribbons and metallic threads. Stitches used include Florentine (Bargello), cross stitch, tent stitch and various textured stitches; all combined in new and unusual ways. Kits are on both 14 and 18 mesh canvas in either white or brown. Each design is available in several standard colours. However, as many stitchers like to display their completed pieces of needlepoint in their homes, we can also supply kits in a specific colour palette to enhance your interior if requested. |
