The
art of knowing - for your animals, for your self, for us all |
The ancient
prophet, Nostradamus, predicted that round about now, people would begin
to talk with the animals. It seems that he was correct. These days,
many people do indeed talk with animals.
Dogs, cats
and horses don’t have the vocal chords to speak with humans –
but it doesn’t mean they’re not thinking or have nothing
to say.
In fact,
you’re probably already talking with your animals. All of us talk
without words with the people we love: mind to mind.
I believe
that if you heard your animal friends, they would tell you that they
want you to be the greatest you could be; they’d want you to explore
the world and all of its possibilities with eyes, ears and heart wide
open. For it is only in remaining open to life that we can fully live,
and help those around us to live.
My mission
is to share what I know about the animals with you – to teach
that animals are far more than we believe them to be.
My aim,
though, is not to do it all for you, but to teach you how you can communicate
with your animal friends; how you can become knowledgeable in animal
husbandry… and how great you are – because this is what
the animals would want for you.

What
the animals teach us about health
Many years
ago, as a responsible dog owner, I followed my vet’s advice to
the letter. I fed the so-called complete and balanced food my vet recommended;
I had my friends vaccinated every year as advised; and they were given
steroids and antibiotics to treat their many illnesses. I believed that
I was doing my best for my dogs.
But when
they started to die years before their time, or came down with illnesses
that destroyed their quality of life, I began to research the causes
of health and ill health, and I changed my belief system. I began to
look at other ways of caring for my friends.

A
change in diet
After changing my dogs from processed to real food - biologically appropriate
food - our vet bills fell by a massive 65%. Canine Health Concern, the
organisation I founded in 1994, surveyed others who had taken our advice
and started to give real food to their dogs. They reported an 85% drop
in veterinary visits. We were so enthused that we began popularising
natural feeding for dogs.
The truth is that most of the diseases in dogs (and in other domestic
animals, and in humans) are caused by malnutrition. Processed food leads
to chronic starvation. The animals are just not getting the nutrients
they need.
Go back to Nature, however, and you’ll see many illnesses clear
up. And if you start your puppy on biologically appropriate food, they
are far less likely to get ill in the first place.

Goodbye
to over-vaccination
I also learnt
that the vaccines we are encouraged to give our friends every year are
not helpful, but harmful.
The simple
fact is that you don’t need to vaccinate your animals every year.
Once immune to viral disease, they are immune for years or life. Frequently
repeated shots do nothing – absolutely nothing – to increase
immunity.
There is also a mountain of scientific research to show that vaccines
can cause brain damage, digestive problems, skin disease, arthritis,
diabetes, epilepsy, allergies, and life-threatening immune-mediated
diseases such as cancer and leukaemia.
I do not
vaccinate my dogs at all – because I believe that vaccines are
capable of destroying health. Instead, I boost their immune systems
with good, wholesome food; I give them plenty of exercise, fresh air
and a happy environment; and I use a range of complementary therapies
to ensure optimum health.
The results
speak for themselves: Gwinnie, born in 1993 is an active, healthy, Golden
Retriever who has had no vaccines since the breeder gave her puppy shots.
Edward and Daniel, both born in 1997, have never been vaccinated.
They rarely
see the vet - they just don’t have hot spots, sickness, diarrhoea
or any of the other common canine problems. Rather, they shine with
vitality.
Thousands of dogs around the world, whose owners have taken our advice,
have the same story to tell.

Common
veterinary drugs
It is a
sad fact that vets have very little to offer apart from vaccines, steroids,
non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), and antibiotics. It’s
not their fault: it’s the conventional medical model’s fault.
It’s what they have been taught.
By advocating
processed pet food and over-vaccinating, vets are setting your animals
up for ill health. Their only solution appears to be to administer steroids
and NSAIDs which reduce inflammation at a very high cost. Side effects
of these drugs can range from bloody diarrhoea, jaundice, aggression,
and organ failure - to death. Of course they often work in the short
term, but what about the long term?
Alongside
these drugs, your vet might also prescribe antibiotics. Like steroids
and NSAIDs, antibiotics do have their place, especially in life or death
situations. But they are over-used, which leads to a number of unwanted
effects. These include the destruction of good bacteria in the gut,
leading to further ill health, and antibiotic resistance.

Alternative
approaches to health
There are
very many natural products available to help your animals stay healthy.
Many herbs and nutritional supplements, for example, can be used to
treat arthritis effectively. A good diet will alleviate most skin problems.
Allergies
can be lessened or eradicated with a combination of diet and energy
therapies. Behaviour problems respond really well to Emotional Freedom
Technique. Dental problems, and subsequent surgery, can be avoided with
the correct diet.
If you’d
like to know more about the alternatives, where do you start? You start
here, where you are now: at the animal in front of you. You take one
step at a time, and eventually you will be an expert.

Veterinary
Surgeons Act (UK)
By law,
it is illegal for anyone who is not a vet to diagnose or treat an animal.
Unless, of course, you are treating your own animal. It is within the
law for you to provide healthcare for your own animal.
The RCVS recognises as acceptable in terms of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 (NFSH Code of Conduct) the complementary treatment of animals by contact healing, by the laying on of hands, by radionic instrument and distant healing by thought transference or prayer in strict accordance with the provisions and spirit of this Code of Conduct.
My advice
– for what it’s worth – is for you to work alongside
a carefully chosen vet who respects your wish to look at complementary
preventative and treatment options. To find such a vet, you can phone
surgeries listed in your local Yellow Pages directory, explain that
you wish to treat your animals naturally wherever possible, and ask
if there is a vet who will work alongside you on this basis. In my experience,
there is always such a vet in your area. Another option is to seek out
a holistic or homoeopathic vet. But beware – despite the positive
label, not all holistic or homoeopathic vets are what they say they
are. Some will ask you to vaccinate when you don’t need to. Again,
be discriminating in your choices.
Your animals
will tell you – by responding with health or ill health –
whether you’re on the right track. This applies to veterinary
drugs, too. If your animals are receiving veterinary treatment but they
still seem far from well, then maybe it’s time to look at the
alternatives.
The point
is that you are the one charged with the care of your animal friends.
Take your power back, and make informed choices, and you’ll never
regret it.

Before
following any of the advice on this site please note that in many countries

The services offered are not intended to substitute any veterinary treatment.
Indeed, we take great pains to assert that veterinary surgeons are invaluable
members of the community, possessing a great wealth of knowledge, and
that the support of a skilled vet is mandatory for the health of your
animals. We suggest only that you choose your vet with care, and work
alongside him or her for the optimum benefit of your animal friends.
Important
note: While EFT has produced remarkable clinical results, it must still
be considered to be in the experimental stage and thus practitioners
and the public must take complete responsibility for their use of it.
However, it should be stated that the RCVS recognises as acceptable in terms of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 (NFSH Code of Conduct) the complementary treatment of animals by contact healing, by the laying on of hands, by radionic instrument and distant healing by thought transference or prayer in strict accordance with the provisions and spirit of this Code of Conduct.
