We are a registered and OFSTED inspected Playgroup operating under the auspices of Haywards Heath Methodist Church.  We are affiliated to the Pre-school Learning Alliance.   We are able to take up to 26 children of pre-school age and have a high staff-to-child ratio.

Perrymount Playgroup has been operating for 25 years and our aim is to encourage learning through play and socialisation, preparing children to settle happily and confidently into full time education when the time comes.

bearlogo   LEARNING

We offer a varied and interesting curriculum covering the Early Years Foundation Stages (EYFS) Themes and Commitments.

The four Themes of the EYFS are: A Unique Child; Positive Relationships; Enabling Environments and Learning and Development.  These four Themes express important Principles underpinning effective practice in the care, development and learning of young children.

The areas of learning and Development are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Communication, Language and Literacy

  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

  • Knowledge and understanding of the world

  • Physical development

  • Creative development

The Early Years Foundation stage focuses on the needs of young children from age 3 until the end of their reception year at school.   Each of the above areas has Early Learning Goals.   These set out the skills, understanding, knowledge and attitudes we hope the children will each or exceed by the end of the Foundation Stage.   The Goals also aim to make learning a fun and challenging experience, and specifically recognises the value of play.

We understand that children will continue to be at different stages of progress towards these Goals, depending on their age and stage of development and take this in account when planning activities.

bearlogo   OTHER ACTIVITIES

In order to give our children a varied and stimulating programme, we like to take the children out to visit local places, e.g. farms, library, parks and gardens, fire station and Gatwick airport.

We also encourage visitors from the local community, e.g. Police Officers, Nurses, Fire fighters, Postmen and women and librarians.

Other activities held annually are an outing for the children and their parents, a Sports Day, Nativity Play, Christmas and Leavers' parties.

bearlogo   KEY PERSONS

We operate a 'Key Person' scheme whereby a member of staff will be responsible for working with you to settle your child at Playgroup and looking after them while they are with us.   The Key Person will aim to get to know your child well, and hopefully, will become a friend to you.   Please inform the Key Person of any information that you feel will help your child while they are at Playgroup.

bearlogo   RECORDS

We keep developmental records of your child's achievements and welcome parents contributions to these.   Regular observations are carried out in order for us to plan activities for your child.   If you would like to see the records, please speak to your child's Key Person or one of the Supervisors.

bearlogo   PARENTS

We seek a relationship with parents of mutual trust and understanding and we aim to keep parents informed about their children's progress and development.

In order to maintain our high adult/child ratio and to provide children with the maximum benefit from their time at Playgroup, parents are required to assist on one morning each half term.   Dates will be allocated at the beginning of each term.   This is an opportunity to be involved with the playgroup and see your child at play.   Should you be unable to help on the given day, we ask that your swap with another parent or speak to the supervisor.   Parents are asked to arrive at 9.15am on the 'helping morning' in order to prepare the hall for the Playgroup session.

We have a parent representative whose main role is to support parents and liase between you and the Playgroup Staff and Committee.

bearlogo   FEES

Our fees are very competitive and are set to cover only the day-to-day running costs.   Fees are payable in advance at the start of each half-term (special arrangements can be made where necessary).   Regretfully, no refunds can be made for absence due to ill health or holidays.    There is a 'once only' registration fee of £10 for each child.

At present children receive funding from West Sussex County Council with effect from the term after the child's third birthday for up to five sessions at a playgroup or nursery per week.   We will provide you with a form to complete and we will then claim from West Sussex Council funding for your child's place.

Should you decide to use the funding for a place for your child at another group we will make a charge for the session with us.
