[Home]

Methodism made its appearance in Braithwaite in the mid 1830s, services being regularly held there in 1835.
In 1850 the worshippers moved from meeting in the home of John Bailiff to a new chapel, which had cost them £70.
Braithwaite Methodist Church & Youth Centre In 1876 the chapel was completely rebuilt to become the present building, at a cost of £250.

In the 1980s the Chapel part of the premises was converted to a residential centre specially for young people, and the Sunday School part was made into a smaller chapel.
At the Centre there is a large downstairs dining/recreation room, fully equipped kitchen and shower/toilet block. Upstairs is the sleeping accommodation - 26 max in four rooms with 2, 7, 8 and 9 bunk beds.
Over the years a lot of work and money has been spent making sure these premises are suitable for a variety of groups to stay at very competitive rates. If you are interested in knowing more about this facility then please go [Back to Braithwaite] to contact the Warden.

The present membership of the church is 6.
