Hi All
First thing is to apologise for the lack of a newsletter for July. I had problems with my internet connection and by the time it was fixed July and most of August was gone.
As I write this the rain is again hitting the window with a strong wind behind it. Days that were good for flying this year can be counted on one hand. Still the hardy have continued trying to fly. Lucky we have a large runway to make those rough landings.
The noise meter has been checked against other meters and it reads the same, so any thoughts that the meter is reading high is wrong but if a test is done in high wind speeds or too near the trees this can increase the reading. When doing a test set the meter up on the runway to be well away from the trees.
The response to running competitions at the site was poor so I can take this as a no to having any at the moment but if more interest is shown this can change.
The one benefit of all this rain is the runway is in good condition with regular cutting, also the vegetation at the sides of the approach road has been cut back. The slow puncture in the mower’s rear wheel has been fixed. Thanks to all involved as we would not be able to fly without this back ground work being done.
Training has been slow due to what seems like constant high winds making teaching approaches to land almost impossible without breaking planes. The lack of broken planes this year says a lot for the standard of teaching. Thanks to all instructors.
At the next AGM I will not be putting myself up for re-election for the Treasurers post but will continue to help train members and be one of the Clubs examiners. Also having done the newsletter for four years I think it would be good if someone else had a go who would have some new ideas for what to put in it. This does not mean the two jobs have to go together. The newsletter could be done by a member who is not on the committee. So if you would like to put a bit back in to the Club then contact me or any of the committee to find out more.
The next newsletter will be in November just before the AGM. Hopefully the weather may break and we can fly late into the year.
Regards Steve
