Hello fellow flyers,

The weather has continued to frustrate our efforts to conclude the winter league competitions.  The Thermal league event on 6th April actually had to be cancelled due to heavy snow!  Finally however, we did manage to complete most of the Electric League Round 4, which took place on Sunday 13th April.  The morning was a bit breezy and the competition started despite the stormy looking skies on the horizon.  The brushed motor competition was completed without incident but, part way through the Open Class competition, the storm struck and we had to beat a hasty retreat.  Despite this we managed to get a result, albeit with a reduced number of slots.  The Brushed motor competition was won by Simon Smith with Peter Sainsbury 2nd and Alan Twine 3rd.  The Open Class competition was won by Alan Twine with Simon Smith 2nd and Alastair Ramsay 3rd.  Congratulations to all the competitors who turned out in uncertain weather.  As always, the full results and updated league tables will appear on the club website within the next few days.

Whilst on the subject of competitions, could I remind all our interclub and F3J flyers that the KIC Round 1 takes place at Sheppey this coming Sunday 20th April.  The 2007 Kent Cup, held over from last year, will also be decided at this meeting.  Due to a clash of fixtures, our own Thermal winter League, scheduled for the same date, has been cancelled in order to encourage participation in the Interclub event.

Now that summer time has arrived (even if it doesn’t feel like it) the winter High Time competitions have ended and the summer ones have started. Congratulations to the winter winners who were:

Claims for the 2008 Summer High Times  should be notified to me for registration on the club website.  The rules, which are very simple, have been posted on the website so check them out before trying to beat the current best times.  At the time of writing, there have been no claims for the summer thermal record but several for the electric version where Alan Twine has posted a very commendable time of 48 minutes 37 seconds.

One piece of good news, given the continuing wet weather, is that the farmer has finally cleared the fallen tree which has blocked our access to the hard standing in the top field for so long.  Would club members please use this area for parking in future, rather than the farm yard.

If there are any new members who would like to ensure they meet a committee member for their first visit to Leigh Park Farm, please telephone or email me to arrange a day on which I can meet you and introduce you to the club.
