Hello fellow flyers,

The weather seems to have been poor for a long time now and I expect, like me, you are getting frustrated at the lack of flying opportunities.  A small handful of members turned up for the re-scheduled 5th Round Electric competition on Sunday 26th March but reluctantly concluded it was too gusty for our small models.

The 5th Round of the Thermal League was held in very windy conditions on Sunday 19th march.  The seven brave souls who agreed to take part proved it is possible to fly in strong winds.  Rob Love was the winner with Phil Ramsey in second place and Simon Smith in third.  Well done to them!

Full results and updated league table are posted on the website.

I suspect that the poor weather hindered people from improving the Winter High Time competitions.  The book is now closed on these but you are invited to have a go at the Summer High Times (Rules on the website).

The 2005/6 Winter High Times were concluded as follows:

Thermal High Time:           Rob Love – 23 min 30 secs

Electric High Time:            Alastair Ramsay – 21 min 34 secs.

REMINDERS:

1.                  Electric winter league round 6 – Sunday 2nd April 10-00am

2.                  Thermal winter league round 6 – Sunday 23rd April 10-00am

3.                  Rescheduled Electric round 5 – Sunday 30th April 10-00am

4.                  Flying can now take place on Thursday evenings from 5pm til dusk.

I have been asked to check how many members would be interested in a summer Electric League to be flown on alternate? Thursday evenings from around 6-15pm until 8pm.  This would be an ‘Open Class’ comp for all types and sizes of electric glider.  It is suggested that we adopt the usual 3 x 10 minute flights from a 60 second power launch with no re-charging between flights.  We may also consider handicapping brushless motor models by allowing an extra 10% of power time for any brushed motor models.  Please let me know if you would be interested in such a competition which could run without interfering with any members who wish to use the bungee for normal gliding practice.

If any of you are going to change your email address would you please let me know so that I can keep you on the circulation list.  ( David Taylor please advise me of your change).

I have been given a set of plans and plastic canopies for a  Jantar 1/5th scale glider of 145 inch wingspan.  This was passed to me by E&M Models as surplus to one of their customers requirements.  They thought it might find a good home with one of our members so if you think you might want to build it please let me know.

One or two of you pointed out a clash of competition dates in May between the Ron Finniss Memorial Trophy competition and an F3 comp.  Keith raised this with the KIC people but was unable to secure a change to the Ron Finniss trophy which remains scheduled for 14th May.  The format has apparently changed this year with team sizes being reduced from 6 to 4.  Better news is that we can, if we wish, enter more than one team.

Best wishes,

Alastair
