Hello fellow flyers,
Since I last wrote to you we have been frustrated by poor weather,
particularly on the Sundays when winter league competitions had been
scheduled. As a result we still
have one thermal league fixture to complete and two electric league
fixtures. The 5th round
electric league has already been re-scheduled for this coming Sunday,
30th April at 10-00 am. We are now heading into conflict with
dates for regional and interclub competitions but, in an attempt to complete the
winter leagues before the end of May, the following dates have been chosen: Thermal League Round 6 – Sunday
8th May; Electric league round 6 – Sunday 21st
May.
The suggestion of holding a summer electric league on Thursday evenings
has drawn interest from at least 8 members. I therefore propose to start this league
on Thursday 4th May. The
competition will be for Open Class electric gliders with no restrictions on
batteries, model size or motor types.
So if you have an electric model why not come and give it a try. Each round will start at 6-15pm and will
consist of 3 flights by each competitor.
There will be no re-charging (or changing) of batteries between flights
and each launch will allow 55 seconds motor run for brushed motor models and 45
seconds motor run for brushless models.
The slot time will be 10 minutes inclusive of motor time and there will
be bonus points awarded for landing within the target area. There will be no penalty for the first
15 seconds of any over-flight but beyond that landing bonus points will be
lost.
You will not have to worry about missing an occasional round because the
final league positions will be calculated on an individual's best four rounds of
the summer season. Any round which
is un-flyable due to weather will not be re-scheduled but merely
abandoned.

I
am pleased to report that there have been some good efforts in raising the
Summer High Time records for the
current summer. David Ward has
recorded 28minutes 45 seconds for the Thermal comp while David Taylor has set 29
minutes 26 seconds for the Electric High Time. These records are still within reach so
let us try to knock them off their perch.

p.s. I remain hopeful that those of you who have been hibernating for the
winter will have re-charged your batteries by now and think of coming flying
again.
