Hello fellow flyers,

I told you last week that we will not be able to fly at Leigh Park farm this coming weekend  (26th to 28th May) due to a Scout Jamboree but that the farmer would offer us an alternative field.  We have now received that offer and Keith Miller and myself had a look at it last night.  It is quite some way from the farm but is of good size and has just had the grass cut.  The field in question is bounded on two sides by trees and on the other two sides by roads.  Access is from the B2027 Hildenborough Road just north of Leigh village.  There is a double steel gate at the entrance to the field which is on the apex of a bend in the road opposite a lone house.  I will attempt to include a map in this email but, in descriptive terms you can approach the field from Hildenborough Station, down Rings Hill, turning right into Stocks green road, under the A21 bypass and along the B2027 Hildenborough Road towards Leigh.  Approximately 400 yards from where you pass under the A21, there is a fairly sharp right hand bend with a house on the right and the entrance to the field directly opposite on your left.  Provided the weather is suitable for flying, I plan to be there from approximately 2-15pm on Saturday.  Keith Miller will, hopefully be there on Sunday morning.

Although the field is of good size I would advise keeping models within the field boundaries because of the proximity of busy roads.  The A21 Tonbridge by-pass is within 200 yards of the eastern edge of the field!

Last Sunday (20th May) turned out to be ideal for flying, with lots of strong thermals around for long periods.  The Club Summer Thermal High Time record was improved on three separate occasions during the morning.  It now stands at just over 80 minutes to Bob Hope flying his own design ‘Golfino’ with a 14ft wingspan.

Although we cannot fly at Leigh Park Farm this weekend, the good news for next week is that the grass has finally been cut and we will not have to struggle through knee high obstacles any more.

The Map!

The field entrance is on the bend where B2027 caption appears on the map

Best wishes,
