Update/Reminder email from Alastair Ramsay

No: 7/06 18th May 2006

Club Website: - Tonbridge-flyers.co.uk

Hello fellow flyers,

We now have 38 of our 43 Gliding/Silent Flight members who are able to receive these email updates. Some are doing this with the help of an accommodating family member who receives the email on their behalf.  If you are one of those helpful people, may I offer my thanks and ask if you will print this and give it to your TRF member  in order to keep him updated.

Since I last wrote to you we have completed the following competition rounds.  The full results are (or will soon be) on the website under the ‘Competitions’ section.  In summary they are:

  1. 6th & final round – Winter Thermal League.  Winner Rob Love with Keith Fisher in 2nd place.
  2. Final positions in Thermal Winter League were: 1st – Rob Love, 2nd – Keith Fisher, 3rd Phil Ramsey.  Well done to them!
  3. 5th Round Winter Electric League on 30th April.  David Taylor won the 400 and Open Class.  The 6th and final round is scheduled for this Sunday 21st May.
  4. The first round of our new Summer Electric League was held on Thursday 4th May.  We had a good attendance with good air and many flights of full 10 minutes duration.  The winner on the night was Keith Fisher with David Taylor in 2nd place.
  5. On Sunday 14th May TRF successfully defended  the Ron Finniss Memorial Team Trophy which we won last year.  We entered two teams of 4 flyers.  The team of Matt Brooks, Phil Ramsey, Shane Alce and Mike Ranger won the trophy with Matt Brooks being the over all individual winner.  A magnificent achievement.  Well done!  Our 2nd Team of Keith Miller, Bob Hope, David Ward and myself came in 5th Place (and yes, there were more than 5 teams entered)

May I draw your attention to a couple of changes to the website:  The weather section has changed  to the ‘Weather.co.uk’ site.  This offers local weather for Tonbridge (or anywhere else) for up to 10 days ahead.  It also allows you (if you click the right tab) to select an hourly forecast for up to 48 hours ahead.  I have found it quite good so far although sometimes the forecast is gloomier than the weather we actually experience.

The other change concerns the ‘For Sale’ section.  One or two sharp eyed individuals noticed the section had disappeared.  We assumed those members wanted to either buy or sell something and have consequently re-instated the section.  If you wish to put something up for sale, please let either myself or Ken Dean have the details for inclusion on the website.
