Hello fellow flyers,

Summer, such as it was, is now over and thoughts turn to the winter competition programme and to the Club AGM which has been arranged for Monday 1st December at 8pm in the Angel Centre, Tonbridge.  I shall confirm the Agenda details and send them to you within the next two weeks but, in the meantime, please let me know if there is an issue you wish to include on that agenda.  Officers of the club are elected or re-elected each year so if you wish to nominate someone for a particular post please seek their permission before letting me know of your proposal.

Despite the generally poor weather this autumn three interclub competitions were successfully held.  These were:

1 .  The Towner Trophy held at Leigh on 28th September.  This went to a Fly-off and was won by Simon Smith against stiff competition from some top competition flyers.  Well done Simon!

2.   The Kent Cup and Glider 4 competitions were held concurrently at Medway on 19th October.  Again our club was very successful, winning both the team and individual Kent Cup event .  In the individual event Simon Smith was the winner with Keith Fisher 2nd, Peter Sainsbury (flying for Bromley) 3rd and Phil Ramsey 4th.  Our winning team comprised Simon, Keith Fisher, Phil Ramsey, Chris Foss and Mike Ranger.  Congratulations to all of them on a very successful day’s flying.

Whilst on the subject of competitions, the summer high time events have closed with the winners being:

Thermal Glider High Time – Peter Young at 56 minutes 10 seconds using his AVA 3.2 metre.

Electric High Time – Alan Twine at 48 minutes 37 seconds flying his O/D Minnie 3.1 metre.

Congratulations to both Peter and Alan on two very substantial flights.

Please note that the winter 2008/9 High times are now open for claims to be made through myself, detailing the date, time, model and witness.  The rules are simple, please consult the website for details.

Some members, myself included, have been experiencing problems accessing the club website recently.  An error message indicating that you do not have permission to access the site has been received by AOL members in particular.  If you experience this problem please use Internet Explorer to directly access the website rather than using your Service Providers normal access route.  If you continue to have access problems please let me know and I will try to help.

Keith Miller has asked me to notify you of the BMFA Free flight Indoor meeting at the Angel Centre on Sunday 16th November between 10am and 6pm.  This clashes with our Thermal winter league event but, if interested, please contact Keith on 01892 534974 for further details.

I would quite like to get ‘ahead of the game’ this year by ensuring Club competition trophies are available for presentation at the AGM on 1st December. To achieve this I shall appreciate all current holders of the Winter Leagues (Electric & Thermal), the 2007 Summer High Times and the 2007/8 Winter High Times returning their trophies to me within the next 10 days.  This will leave at least two weeks for the engraving to be completed.
