Update/Reminder email from Alastair Ramsay

No: 10/06 – 22nd July 2006

Club Website: - Tonbridge-flyers.co.uk

Hello fellow flyers,

I know it is only a couple of weeks since my last Email but there are a few items I need to draw to your attention before I go on holiday .

We welcome another new member in Gordon Gilchrist who joins the Silent Flight section on his return to our hobby after a lapse of many years.  Would Gordon please acknowledge receipt of this email so that I can know that I have his correct email address?

The results of last weekends KIC Thermal League competition at Invicta have now been posted on the club website.  I am pleased to report another win for the TRF team.  Several of our flyers were highly placed in the individual rankings with Bob Hope leading the way in second place over all.

REMINDERS for the coming week!

1.                  Thursday evening 27th July at 6-15pm – Next round, Summer Electric League at LPF.  A better turnout this week would be appreciated.

2.                  Sunday 30th July is the Tonbridge (BARCS) Open Thermal competition at Leigh Park Farm.  Any late entries please contact Keith Miller a.s.a.p.

3.                  Please NOTE! Because of the above competition there will be no club flying at LPF on Sunday 30th July.

I would like to correct an error in my last email.  The winner of the Electric League on 15th June was Alan Goddard and not myself.  The results posted on the website were in fact correct.  Apologies to Alan.

Finally, Keith Miller has asked me to draw your attention to the upcoming election of officers to BMFA.  Keith’s note on this issue is as follows:

Technical Committees are essential to the lifeblood of the competitive arm of the Society. They make, add to and amend the rules governing their various disciplines. They also disseminate technical information and advice to the SMAE Council and General Membership in their particular field of expertise. They organise National and International Competitions and are responsible for the selection of World and European Champs teams. They play a major role in the organisation of the British National Model Flying Champs.
The Committees hold regular meetings, typically bi-monthly , and reasonable travelling expenses are paid. A representative from each Technical Committee is also selected to attend Council and Technical Council Meetings.
Many Committees operate national leagues as a part of their responsibilities and committee members are often involved in the co-ordination, administration and operation of such leagues. R/C Silent Flight TC have prepared a guidance sheet which outlines these responsibilities and prospective nominees may contact the BMFA Leicester office for a copy of this information
Again, if any member has anyone to suggest as a nomination for any of the vacancies, please let Keith Miller know on 01892 534974 by August 15th at the latest.

You may remember that at the last BMFA AGM an amendment was made to the Constitution which enabled Council to adopt a 'one member one vote' strategy which is to be implemented this year. This means that each and every member of the BMFA will be given the right to cast their own vote(s) in any ballots that may be necessary following the above nomination procedures. The October issue of BMFA News will carry the manifesto of all candidates offering themselves for election, together with a ballot paper for the recording of votes where a ballot is required.
There have been many complaints in the past at the way BMFA elections are carried out and this is a chance to make the election of officers and technical committee members more democratic.

Best wishes,

Alastair Ramsay
