Hello fellow flyers,

There are a few issues to draw to your attention before our AGM on 3rd December:

  1. The BARCS  AGM and Show is to be held near Leicester on Sunday 2nd December.  Many of our silent flight section are members of BARCs and will attend the AGM.  I had not been aware of this meeting at the time of scheduling our winter leagues and regret that our next Electric round clashes with the BARCS  AGM.  I therefore propose to cancel the Electric League – round 2 event on 2nd December and re-schedule it for the reserve date of 9th December.  My apologies if this inconveniences some members.

  1. Whilst on the subject of BARCS, I have been asked to draw your attention to the fact that, in striving to attract new members, BARCS is proposing to drastically reduce membership fees for 2008 to £10/year.  This would seem to be a very worthwhile offer for all those interested in thermal soaring.  If, like me, you are interested in taking advantage of this offer, please check the BARCS website ( through the link from our own website) where you will find a method of submitting your application.

  1. When scanning the latest edition of the QEFI magazine, I came across the details of the new 200Watt per Kilogramme Electric competition class  run by eSoaring.net.  This class is closely similar to one I proposed for the club a couple of summers ago.  It has now generated regional and national competitions and has spawned new, larger scale models which will give a style of competition close to those of the Open Thermal events.  If you are interested in this development, please check out the website at: www.eSoaring.net  Our electric competition members can then have a discussion during the winter as to whether this is a direction we would want to take.

  1.  May I also take this opportunity to encourage you to attend the TRF AGM at the Angel Centre on Monday 3rd December at 8pm.  The Agenda is as follows:

1. Apologies for absence

2. Minutes of the 2006 AGM

3. Matters arising from 2

4. Officers' Reports

5. Election of Officers for 2008

6. TRF Constitution

7. Club Flying Sites including the TRF Open and other events at Leigh Park Farm.

8. Kent Interclub

9. TRF Website

10. Subscriptions for 2008

I have a scanned document containing the minutes of our last AGM.  It is approximately 2Mbytes in size.  If you would like to see this before the agm please let me know and I will email the document to you.  If you are attending the AGM it is a good idea to bring your chequebook.  You can then pass your 2008 subs directly to the treasurer at the end of the meeting.

  1. On Sunday 18th November we ran the first round of our winter Thermal League.  Conditions were very blustery and this limited the field to a few brave souls who were prepared to combat the adverse conditions.  We got off to a bad start when the bungee parachute, complete with 125 metres of towline, blew away into the next field.  Thereafter the competition ran smoothly, albeit with a few hairy moments.  The final results, posted on the website, show Keith Fisher as a worthy winner with Simon Smith 2nd and Andy Thompson 3rd.  Well done to them!

  1. Finally a reminder of the events for your diary in December:

Sunday 2nd Dec – BARCS AGM  ( Please note electric round 2 cancelled for this date)

Monday 3rd Dec – TRF  AGM at Angel Centre - 8pm

Sunday 9th December – Electric League round 2 ( moved from 2nd Dec.)

Sunday 16th December – Thermal League – round 2

Monday 31st December – Subs for 2008 due!

Best wishes,
