SWELL Round #3 & LOCAL EVENT

LANGDON HILLS, ESSEX TQ 680 865

SUNDAY 6th DECEMBER 2009

CAR PARK: At the Beacon car park in Dry Street, Langdon Hills, near Basildon, Essex, grid ref: TQ680865. The car park is adjacent to the B1007 which runs north-south between the A127 & A13 dual carriageways. A £1 car parking charge will be collected at the gate. This is for a donation towards facility improvements within the country park.

DIRECTIONS:

From M25 Junction 29: Head east along the A127 towards Southend for 6 miles. Take the slip-road at the Dunton Junction and turn right onto the B148 (West Mayne). Turn right at the first roundabout onto the B1036, signed Superstore (Tesco) then left at the next roundabout. Continue for about 1 mile then turn right at the roundabout, signed Langdon Hills then right again at the next roundabout. After passing through Langdon Hills village, turn right at the T junction onto the B1007 (Staneway). Pass the Harvester restaurant and in 250m turn left onto Dry Street then right into the car park.

From M25 Junction 30: Head east along the A13 towards Southend for 5 miles. Take the slip-road at the junction for the B1007 (Horndon-on-the-Hill) and turn left. Follow the B1007 for 4 miles. Turn right, just after the church seen on the left, onto Dry Street then right into the car park.

FACILITIES: Toilets 300m from NE corner of car park field. Dogs welcome if under control.

COURSES:

White, Yellow, Orange, Light Green, Green and Blue.
Possible free Christmas theme mini-course adjacent to the car park.
Courses suitable for all abilities. Help available for beginners.Start and finish close to the car park.

MAP/TERRAIN:  Map 1:10,000, survey autumn 2006 with recent updates.
Courses overprinted and maps bagged.
Terrain includes mature woodland and open areas with significant hills.
Come and experience some Essex contours!

Registration 10:00 am to 12 noon
Starts 10:30 am to 12.30 pm
Courses close  2:00 pm

ENTRY FEES:

Seniors £7. (£2 discount for British Orienteering national/local members.)  Juniors (under 21) £2.
Families/groups as for Seniors
Electronic punching will be used at this event – SI ‘dibber’ hire fee £1.

NB On the day there will be a Christmas event going on near the car park behind The Harvester. DO NOT try to use this, the Westley Heights car park. Use the event car park in Dry Street instead.
