LOCAL ORIENTEERING EVENT

THORNDON PARK NORTH, BRENTWOOD

 ESSOL, Essex and Suffolk Schools Orienteering League)

DIRECTIONS:

From the M25 or A12: Leave the main road at the M25/A12 Brook Street roundabout (M25 J28). Follow the road signs towards Brentwood (A1023). Go straight on at the first set of traffic lights. Turn right at the second set of traffic lights into Mascalls Lane. After one mile, go straight on at the next set of traffic lights into Eagle Way. After half a mile the entrance gates and lodge to Thorndon Park North are on the right.
Coordinates here: TQ604915 (N 51° 35’59” E 0° 19’ 1”). There are brown tourist signs to the park.
Please use the second car park, 800m from the entrance. On your way, you may prefer to stop briefly at the first car park, next to the Visitor Centre. The toilets are behind the main building. Please remember to buy your pay & display car park ticket.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT:  The nearest railway station is at Brentwood, 2.5k.

COURSES:

Extended range of colour coded courses:
White, Yellow, Orange, Light Green, Red/Long Orange, Green, Blue, Brown, Black.
Courses will be pre-marked and maps bagged or on water resistant paper; 1:10000 (A4); 2010 updates.
Suitable for adult and junior beginners; improvers and experienced orienteers.
Help and coaching will be available for beginners and improvers. It is hoped to have a “Naughty Numbers” course with a cartoon version for younger competitors.
TERRAIN: Terrain is a mix of established woodland with good path network, some open and semi-open areas. The longer courses, Blue and above have road crossings.
FACILITIES: The large car park is all hard standing. There is an Essex County Council charge (£2).
Start & Finish are both within 300m of car park.
Visitor Centre sells gifts and light refreshments.
Dogs welcome if under control.

Registration 10:00 am to 12 noon
Starts 10:30 am to 12.30 pm.
Courses close 2:30 pm

Seniors/groups: £5.00
Juniors (under 21): £2.00
Surcharge for non-British Orienteering members: £2.00
Electronic punching SI-card hire: £1 (free for juniors)
