The Worcester City Netball League are in dire need of a Secretary. Our present one is standing down at the AGM on September 24th (7.30 p.m. start) at the University of Worcester and as usual we are not overrun with nominations. Plese take note that our league only operates thanks to the efforts of a small band of unpaid volunteers, without them their would be no league at all. Can I therefore appeal to your better natures and ask you all to consider taking on this post. The Secretaries duties are the taking of minutes at our meetings (usually every 6 or so weeks) and the sorting and replying to any correspondence. If we don't get one I have to tell you that we would have to consider folding as the existing members cannot take on any more responsibility.
Refeshments will be served after the AGM.
If you have a trophy from last year it would be appreciated if you could return it at the Umpires Forum, that takes place this coming Tuesday. For details of the forum see lower down the page.
Have you been out of the game for a while and eager to play again. There will be a return to netball session on Sunday, July 8th between 10 am - 12 Noon at Christopher Whitehead High School. Please take a look at this flyer.
Unfortunately Yoursport appears to have pulled the plug on their League Manager service and have not seen fit to inform their customers. Therefore I will have to find an alternative way of displaying the results and League Tables. I hope to make a download in pdf format available shortly.
There will be an Umpires Forum on Tuesday, July 10th, 7.30 pm at Worcester University. This forum will be taken by Zena Johnston who is the Umpiring Secretary for the West Midlands Netball Association. Zena is also an active "A" Umpire. We urge all umpires plus any players to make the effort to attend this forum where interpretations of rules can be made clearer.
England Netball have completely revamped their website and have changed the internet address. It can be found at England Netball.

They currently have three senior teams and may be expanding to four by September this year. Brita Hill who was a mainstay in the Queeenshead defence for a number of years and who latterly played for Evesham Reds as well as being County captain in 2004-5, has moved to the pretty cornish fishing port of Looe to run a B & B. If ever you need somewhere to stay in Cornwall why not give Brita a try. Details can be found at her website www.shuttahouse.co.uk
For those of you confused about the new England Netball structure and how
it will affect us in Worcester I will attempt to explain in laymans terms.
West Midlands League
Starting in September this year there will be a brand new regional league. This
is intended to start with 2 divisions of 10 teams each. The top division will
contain those clubs from the West Midlands that were members of the National
Clubs League. Saracens & Evesham will play in Division 1 along with:
Bournville
Yendy's (S. staffs)
Harborne
Grasshoppers (Birmingham)
Tibberton Star (Telford) etc etc.
The second division will be made up of other strong Clubs & Teams from the
West Midlands area who will have applied for membership. I believe there may
be a tournament to ascertain the strongest teams if the second division applications
need whittling down. There will be promotion and relegation between the regional
leagues and the two national divisions above them and also with the local
leagues below.
Worcester City Netball League
Our league in Worcester will act as a feeder league for the West Midlands. This
means that the Champions of our Winter League will have the right (if they want
to as their is no compulsion) to compete for a place in the West Midlands League.
They
will
do
this
by
competing against the champions of the Kidderminster & Redditch Leagues and
the resulting winning team will then be the Worcestershire representatives in
further play offs against the Champions of the other West Midland Counties, to
gain a place in the Regional League

Please note: if for any reason you need to cancel game at the above venues, can you please text 07981 216521 with your team name and the fact that you have cancelled. This will ensure that we charge for the courts correctly.
All teams should be affiliated with the County Affiliation Secretary before commencing any league games, this will also mean any second claim players playing for your team, should be first claim with another team. Please also note that all umpires need to be affiliated and it is up to the team to check his/her details.
There have been a number of instances lately where the ball has been knocked off court and a player has entered an adjacent court whilst a game was taking place to retrieve the ball. You must not at any time run on to a court in this manner. You MUST wait until either the ball is returned to you or for the umpires officiating that game to halt play. It is putting not only yourself but the players on the other court in danger of serious uury.
We are still waiting for a number of teams to send in contact mobile telephone numbers for themselves and umpires. This is to enable us to inform teams of postponements more efficiently.
Can I just flag the importance of sending in results sheets for ALL matches. If your opponents concede a game for whatever reason, it is your responsibility to send a results sheet CLAIMING the five points within three days of the date the game should have taken place. The sheet must contain the reason for the game not taking place. Failure to do so will mean the game being declared void and NO points will be awarded.
All umpires must be affiliated before they can officiate in any game. Please make sure that your umpire is affiliated and should you bring in a replacement at any time, it is your responsibility to ascertain whether they are affiliated. Failure to do so may result in the game being awarded to your opponents.
There has seems to be a lack of understanding about injuries occurring during winter games. Please take note of below which has always been on this website on the winter fixtures pages:
Should a player suffer an injury during a game then the game stops until that player has left the court to get attended to. Should the injury be that serious that a player should not be moved and this takes several minutes or longer, then the game will be abandoned and re-scheduled at a later date. The time lost is not to be added, as all games should finish at the same time.
It has been noticed particularly amongst the younger players i.e. 16's and under that fashionable trainers are being worn rather than cross trainers. It is important that players wear the right type of trainer so that their ankles and the balls of their feet receive the right support. Please also note that it is absolute lunacy to contemplate playing without laces being tied properly. Tucking laces in rather than tying them will offer no support and could lead to a player suffering broken bones. PLEASE BE SENSIBLE.
All umpires should be aware that they should wear sensible clothing. Polo Shirt, Shorts or skirt and sensible trainers NOT floral print dresses and sandals as was observed at Christopher Whitehead's last week.
Can I please remind all teams that it is the injured player who must call for TIME. It is not the responsibility of the umpire.
PLEASE NOTE:
It is the umpires responsibility before each game that they check the following:
Once the match has started umpires must not:
