What is a Gamelan?

'Gamelan’ refers to a set of instruments which originate from the Indonesian island of Java and which consist largely of metallophones and gongs which are played with wooden mallets or beaters. The music produced by the Gamelan is based on everyone playing together but, at its simplest, requires no previous musical knowledge or skill.

It is meditative, simple and most importantly, great fun.

What others have to say about their Gamelan experience ...

"Great exercise in encouraging teamwork and co-ordination skillls. Everyone should have the chance to be a Gamelan musician."

"I made music. Possibly a first!"

"Amazing sound. Great support and everyone was really encouraging."
